1950 DeSoto Custom S14 sedan with Fluid Drive transmission - PROJECT under restoration. Second picture was taken in 2002, the rest show restoration progress. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS.
This is a 100% original, 100% complete and 100% rust free California car, came from LA plant and spent all its life in California. Body is straight, all hinges are tight – you can close any door with a push of a finger. I am the third owner and own it since 2001. Clear title in my name. Currently on PNO, no back fees. Comes with original CA yellow-on-black plates.
Some time ago I've started a frame-off restoration - frame, suspension, steering gear, rear axle and brakes are 100% restored. Due to my personal circumstances I will not be able to complete this restoration. Thousands invested in parts and labor – you can have it for a fraction of that. Every single part that was removed from the car including those that were replaced is included. I also have lots of NOS parts that I've collected over the years (including a full set of NOS fenders) that will be sold separately.
As of now it is a rolling/steering project ready to load on a flat bed.
Work done up to date:
- front clip, fenders, engine, transmission, suspension, rear axle removed;
- frame dropped from underneath the body and completely dissembled;
- frame and underside of the body were stripped, cleaned and painted;
- frame reassembled and reunited with the body;
- suspension, steering and rear axle rebuilt and reinstalled;
- brakes refilled with a DOT 5 fluid.
Every single bearing, cup, and seal was replaced with NOS part. Every single part used in the reassembly was either NOS or a rebuilt except for:
- new frame to body mount cushions from Steele Rubber;
- new model correct coil and leaf springs from Eaton Detroit Spring;
- new stainless steel brake and fuel lines formed after originals;
- new aftermarket shocks;
- new aftermarket wheel brake cylinders.
Work needed to complete restoration:
- rebuild/reinstall original engine/transmission or go restomod and fit modern components;
- new wiring harness;
- upholstery;
- paint job.
The car is located and can be viewed in Belmont, CA. I'm open to offers.
