1934 DeSoto Airflow Sedan Additional Info:
You are bidding on a rare 1934 DeSoto Airflow 4 door sedan. This is a nice older restoration, probably done in the late 60's or early 70's. I have owned this car for about 20 years and it is time to let it go. The previous owner had it for over 40 years. It has always been stored properly and kept in driving condition, although over the last several years it has been rarely driven. The wheels cylinders were recently replaced and the brake system flushed and bleed. The fuel system was flushed and new gas has been installed. It starts and runs well but I have not driven more than around the block. The tires have good tread but are over 20+ years old, these should be replaced before it is driven very far.
Overall the body seems to be in good shape, the onlynoticeable damage is to the hood. Someone tried shutting this without unlatching the prop arm and put a bend in the hood. I have never bothered fixing this and this was how it was when I bought it. The paint show some signs of age, mainly a few chips and scratches but nothing that really distracts from the overall appearance. The chrome is still in 'good' condition but far from perfect. The interior is in nice condition also. It has been redone and looks very close to original. The seats are in excellent condition as well as the headliner. Carpet is clean and shows little if any wear, the door panels are OK but show some wrinkles in the fabric. When this car was fixed up years ago it did not undergo a full restoration but for the time period it's not too bad.
I believe everything works with the exception of the radio. The radio itself is a rare period option, when you turn it on the dial lights up but there is no sound. Exterior and interior lights work as do the gauges. Also the horn has a good loud sound to it. The fabric roof is in excellent condition and seems to be water tight.
This car does have a few negative issue which are as follows; the rear view mirror on the drivers door is not original, the vent windows in the front doors have been replace with a one piece glass window, the right rear tail light bucket it not correct. I do have a few extra parts which include some tail light lenses, new water pump, etc.
Overall a nice driver, if you are wanting a show car you will have to spend a lot of money on this one or you can just enjoy it as is. Old Cars Price guide shows the following prices; #1 $65,000, #2 $45,500, #3 29,250, #4 13,000. I would say this car is close to a #4 car. I am starting the bidding at $10,000 with no reserve. Please fill free to email me with any questions. The car is for sale locally too. A deposit of $1000 is required within 24 hours after the auction ends and the balance within 7 days. I would like the car removed as soon as possible after it is payed for. Thanks for looking.
