The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most famous automobiles in the whole world thanks to its staring role in the "Back to the Future" movies. It has actually become a pop culture icon. I drive it to work and on errands a couple days a week and wherever I go, people stop, take pictures and smile a lot. The other day I was bringing my son home from school and someone (who I don't know) took a 30 second video of the back of our DeLorean going down the road showing our license plate "BTTF."They posted it on U-Tube and it had 65,000 hits within one day.
Our DMC-12 was one of the last built in Northern Ireland, January 1982 with the plant closing in February 1982. So, our DeLorean comes with a number of improvement modifications not present in earlier models. As you can see from the pictures, our DeLorean has black interior with five speed manual transmission (regardless of what the critics say, it is a car with pep). Standard features included leather seats, air conditioning, AM/FM Cassetteradio, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, tilt and telescoping steering wheels, tinted glass, and an electric rear window defroster.
Important to mention that when I purchased our DeLorean over the internet in December 2010 from DMC Gulf Coast Motorworks, 28790 South Diesel Drive, Bonita Springs, Florida 34125, it had been completely refurbished with original DeLorean parts and was "certified" with a six monthwarranty. with just under 18,000 miles.Refurbishment included all new headers, new carpet, complete mechanical and electrical updating services, updating of all hoses, belts, fluids, rubber seals, safety features, complete new braking system, new electric window motors and four new stereo speakers.A 10 page list of all refurbishment work costing over $10,000 is available upon request. First picture in series above was taken in December in front of the Dealer before the car was shipped to Hawaii.
Perhaps more important, the primary reason I purchased this DeLorean is that it had just been driven 600 miles round trip to a DeLorean car show and had no problems. There are many DeLoreans for sale with low mileage, but they either do or soon will have problems because not driving a DeLorean is way worse that consistently taking it out for a run every couple of days, refurbishment cost can be huge. I have owned this car over 8 years and have been driving it approximately 750 miles per year. It has been scrupulously servicedhere in Honolulu, by the J&N Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati dealer. The single biggest expense has been $4500 spent Fall 2018 to convert the old R-12 AC to the new 134a system. R-12 is hard to come by and the new 134a system really puts out much colder AC.
It may be possible to purchase a newly assembled DeLorean in 2019 from the DMC Dealer in Houston at an approximate cost of $100,000. Our DeLorean is all original at about half that price. I truly hate to sell it, but I have now retired, live in Hawaii and have five cars with two drivers, so I really need to find "Da Baby," as she is called at J&N Auto, a new home. My wife and I are the only two people who have driven this car in the past 8 years.
Our DeLorean is in excellent running condition. It has been garage kept since arriving in Hawaii early January 2011 and I only take her out when the sun is shining (not too hard here). We can ship anywhere in the world, approximate cost for buyer to ship to mainland USA is $2200.
Serious inquires only please.
