1981 DeLorean DMC-12. Painted Blue with Grey Leather Interior. 5-Speed Manual.Dealer painted in 1982 by Tate Cadillac in Pomona, CA. Originally red, it was repainted a beautiful metallic blue a few years ago. Approximately 25,350 miles (mileage might increase slightly). This car was with its original owner until 2014. The car spent about 20 years in California and about 12 years in Arizona. I am the third owner. I bought the car in 2015 from a physician that owned it for one year. The included service records go back to 1982, when the car wore CA plates "A RED DL". The selling dealer, Tate Cadillac was known for painting these cars (red, white, black) when the stainless finish cars were selling slowly.
When I purchased the car I drove it nearly 1,000 miles home without an issue. The car did develop ahot start issue (typical for a DeLorean) that my mechanic was able to resolve. I have about $5,000 in service receipts since I bought the car, mostly with service intended to make the car more driveable and reliable. The car's Bosch K-Jet systems is very sensitive to fuel pressure, but when the fuel supply and accumulator are functioning properly it is a very reliable car. Included with the car is a "rescue" manual that will help troubleshoot common issues to help avoid a tow.The car also includes its original window sticker, tons of service records and DeLorean memorabilia collected over the years.
The car appears very original (other than the paint). The glass appears to be all original. The seats had sheep skin covers when I bought the car and have just a little bolster wear. The tires are like new and are probably just a few years old, and the wheels appear recently refinished. I believe the radio is original (with the LCD display on the cassette door). Original engine and transmission. The exhaust does look like it was upgraded at one point (please see photo).
The car does have some small cosmetic issues. The black portion of the rear bumper could be repainted (see photos). The instrument binnacle has a crack on the top (see photo). The floor mats aren't original and the driver's side is dirty. The shifter boot is worn. There is a slow leak in the front left tire, it requires air every few weeks.
In response to a couple questions about the frame, the frame is solid and indicative of a car that spent most of its life garaged in California. I have added a couple photos to the listing. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to put the car on a lift, but buyers are welcome to have their own inspections performed if it is a concern.
