As Nissan was approaching its 50th anniversary in 1984, it did what manufacturers often do – took its most potent model (the Z31 or 300zx) and added more tech and more power to it. The result was the 300ZX Turbo 50th Anniversary Edition (AE), which came standardly equipped with a futuristic digital dash; and ancillary gauges, including average mileage, G-force, and compass readouts. In addition, it came equipped with electronic adjustable shocks, Bodysonic speakers in the seats, cruise and radio controls in the steering wheel, 50th Anniversary Edition logos everywhere, mirrored T-tops, embroidered leather seats, embroidered floor mats, sixteen-inch (406mm) aluminum wheels, rear fender flares, flared front fenders, and a 50th AE logo badge on the driver's side front fender.
Alongside the Shiro Special, the 50th Anniversary Edition models remains amongst the most desirable iterations of the Z31-generation of 300ZXs. In fact, only 5,148 AE models were produced (2901 of thosecame with5-speed manual transmissions) for the U.S. market, so it is a very rare and collectable automobile.
The only option available to the 50th Anniversary Edition was the choice between an automatic and a 5-speed manual transmission. This particular 300ZX AE comes with the much more desirable and sporty 5-speed manual.
The 300ZX was powered by Nissan’s first V-6 motor, which displaced 3-liters and developed 180 hp in normally aspirated form. However, the addition of the turbocharger brings the total to just over 200 hp and about 230 ft-lbs of torque.
All 1984 300ZX 50th Anniversary Editions came with a silver and black color scheme with special “Turbo” decals fitted to the rocker panels.
This particular 300ZX AE has been well taken care of and only driven to auto events or to exercise its electrical-fluid-mechanical systems. Thus, it is practically a new car and shows only 8000 miles on its odometer.
This 300ZX AE is near concours condition and would only take a little work to get it there including; removing a few dings on the hood (due to being caught in a very rare hail storm); touching up the wheels, and giving it a compete detail.
This is a very special car and every time I do take it out for a drive I am approached by people who just want to admire it or offer to buy it. The 300ZX AE was years ahead of its time!!
While I would prefer to keep the vehicle I have come to learn thatrarely driven show or specialty cars need attention (even when stored properly - cars do not like to be inactive for long periods of time). Unfortunately, I no longer have the time to devote to the car and would like it to go to an automobile enthusiast that does.
