1971 Datsun Z-Series 240z Additional Info:

Dark blue on blue, Series 1, 1971 240z Automatic, need I say more? Well I probably should because there is a lot to say on this guy. Good, bad, ugly, it’s got it all. Must be one of the rarest color combos for the 240. Has bad rust, and then very little rust in some of normal places. Still carries the original engine, (numbers matching) automatic transmission and most of the oem parts. Sadly, I was not able to get the motor to turn over with power or manually.

The car began Dark Blue paint code 903 and was painted some unknown shade of white many years ago. The body does not appear to have any “major” damage. The front valence is salvageable, which is rare. The front bumper has a bend and the hood some bondo, so something happened. The rear still has the welds under the straight bumper, tried to get these in the pictures below. The original trunk lid has the vent holes and vertical defrost lines denoting early series one. The lid is rusty on the inside. The doors usually shut most of the way. The glass is all original except for the windshield. You’ll have to believe me that the passenger glass is there, I made the mistake of rolling it down, and it won’t go back up. The roof is rusty just like the rest of the car. Has the early 240z badging on the sides behind the quarter glass. Came with the later hubcaps, has stock wheels, don’t have the D caps. Not sure that this one had them to begin with. Almost everything is here to begin your restoration.
The engine bay still has many of the original stickers and holds the Dark Blue original color. The matching numbered L24 engine corresponds to the data plate on the fender. The VIN on the data plate corresponds to the VIN on the firewall and dash cowl. The battery tray is mostly there, most of the rust in the bay is underneath, but does not look to have taken the frame rails. The fire wall is, pretty good.
The interior a matching blue to the blue exterior. The dash has a couple cracks but is in pretty “ok” shape. All the parts are there, no Hitachi radio, but some early 8 track holds the place. Door panels are there with all the parts, but I’m sure there is rust lying behind them. The nonadjustable seats are the originals. Wood steering wheel. Rusted out floors. Center console isn’t cracked in a million places. Plastics are workable but faded. Doesn’t have the rear tool hatches that the later cars have. I did not attempt to take the spare out in fear of what lies beneath. The drip rail in the hatch amazingly is not rusted out…wow, of all things.
