1972 Datsun Z-Series Additional Info:
You're viewing my 1972 Datsun 240Z coupe in very good restorable condition, in the very rare and highly desirable 113 paint code (Green Metallic) with only 90k original unmolested miles! This car was purchased new and owned for 46 years by a lady in Southern Virginia that drove it until 1986 (only driven sparingly for 14 years), when she put it away in her garage after purchasing a new Corvette. Based on the overall condition of the car, I don't believe it was driven much during Winter months as the floors and frame rails are in very good overall shape considering its age. The Z does run and drive, though it needs gone through more thoroughly before being "road worthy".
A new gas tank has been installed, as well as new a fuel filter and fuel pump. There may be a kink or blockage in the line? The new fuel pump is working perfectly but not getting fuel from the tank to the carbs. It runs well using a temporary can filled with gas. I suspect a new fuel line needs run. The car is also sporting 2 freshly rebuilt correct twin SU carbs (needs fine tuning but it runs pretty well as is). The car has only been driven around the yard and neighborhood but not at any great speed or distance for safety reasons, but both the gearbox and clutch are operational.
The body of the car is pretty solid. The car was repainted in its original 113 paint code color prior to 1986, and has held up well. Remember, that's over 32+ years ago and it still looks decent! There appears to be a little bondo at the rear wheel arches and lower rockers. I'm guessing it's minimal because after painting the car 30+ years ago, it's holding up well. The rest of the car is very solid. The rear hatch/deck lid is in good condition along the underside at the rear where many rot away. The inner hatch corners where they typically rot away are in pretty good shape, with just some minor bubbling for the most part. Inside the spare tire area is solid with only surface corrosion (spare is missing). The floors of the car are very solid overall with just one or two tiny areas that need attention (see pic of carpet lifted). Frame rails are good, but above the frame rails inside the front wheel wells there's the common issue in that rectangle shaped area (small, about 2" X 6"). Very common problem and a fairly straight forward repair. All glass is original and in very good condition. Rear window has the vertical defroster lines. Brightwork around windows is good. The top trim piece around the windshield is missing a small section (it somehow got bent out of the rubber seal so it was cut off to prevent further damage). The corner pieces are in one of the boxes of parts. Front bumper is in decent shape, rear should be replaced. Rubber trim strips are missing, but replaceable.
The interior of the car is all original and needs only freshened up with new seat covers, door panels, sill covers, and rear deck carpet to look really nice. The dash is beautiful and crack free! Headliner is really nice. It still has its original factory radio, heater knobs, choke lever, and wood steering wheel. The rubber Z mats are in great shape as well!
As stated, the car runs and doesn't make any strange noises or smoke. The straight 6 cylinder motor is "original numbers matching" to the car as delivered from the factory (see pics of manufacturers VIN plate/block stamping). The 4 speed tranny is original as well. I'm assuming the clutch is original as the mileage is only 90k, so it's unlikely it was ever changed. Brakes function but should be rebuilt or replaced (new calipers, rotors/drums/pads are included!). You will need to get a battery for the car. When arranging shipping, it should be considered "non op" due to the fuel delivery issue/no battery.
I'm also including in the sale many new parts to assist with the restoration/refresh of this beautiful survivor Z! Parts that are included (see last pic):
(4) New slotted mags (same as original optional wheels from dealers) with new tires are on the carNew hard brake lines (straight, need shaped)New headliner material (black, if you decide to go a different route...existing one is very nice)(4) New Tokico gas shocks/struts(2) sets of side mirrors(2) tool bags/miscellaneous toolsOriginal center arm rest and (2) additional door arm restsNew motor mounts(4) new rotors and drumsNew brake padsNew calipersNew smog pumpNew fuel pumpNew timing kit (chain)New clutch master cylinderNew miscellaneous hosesNew air filterNew water pumpNew alternatorNew starter on motor (original included)Assorted miscellaneous parts including new wiper blades, brake lever boot, lug nut locks, gaskets, distributor caps, points, original rear Datsun emblem, etc.Original Owners Manual and Service Booklet are also included!
This is a great opportunity to get into a rare and desirable solid early Z that hasn't been messed with/altered over the years. It's a fantastic color combination as well!!! Straight forward easy restoration. Again, it does run and drive!
Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Only bid if you're serious and will complete the purchase. This is not a game and costs money to list! I require a $500 PayPal deposit immediately following the auction, and the remaining balance to be bank wired within 3 business days. No exceptions. I am a private collector, not a dealer. I mostly restore and collect air cooled Porsche's as my passion, but my first car in college was a 1973 240Z and I've always had a soft spot for them. I planned on restoring this one, but I just found another early 911 that I'd like to buy so this needs to find a new home. Clean clear title in my possession. Car is located at my river home in Conway, SC. All sales are final with no warranties expressed or implied. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
