1970 Datsun Z-Series Coupe Additional Info:
The first year Datsun 240Z cars have become highly collectible to say the least. Sturdy engineering, excellent performance, low price, attractive styling, etc., had been achieved by many manufacturers prior to the Z-car, but the reason the 240Z car was so great was because it capitalized on all these criteria and perfected the concept of a low-cost, reliable sports car. Mr. Yutaka Katayama is considered the 'Father of the Z Car' and is responsible for the design & creation of this legendary vehicle. The Datsun 240Z was introduced in 1969 as a 1970 model, the engine being a derivation of the Datsun 1600, which was a copy of the 1960's six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz 220 engine but with two less cylinders. With 151 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, the vehicle could propel from 0-60 in eight seconds. Independent suspension & rack & pinion steering added to its quick response, performance, and handling, while the front disc brakes brought the car to a stop from high speeds in just seconds. With a price tag of just over $3,500, it cost much less than anything else comparable on the market at the time. ‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is very happy to offer you this gorgeous 1970 Datsun 240Z Coupe, finished in its factory correct bright red exterior w/ black interior, arguably the most striking color combo offered that first year. What a cool car this is! This little jewel was cosmetically restored in 2012-2013 while retaining many of its original components & features. The owner decided to mildly customize a few items during the restoration process, including adding black bumpers, black mirrors, black spoiler, etc., which look great on this Z. The body is super straight all of the way around the car, and all body panels are aligned beautifully w/ precise gaps. The bright red paint has been buffed to a mirror-like shine, and all of the stainless trim pieces are extremely nice. She sits on the factory original 14” styled steel wheels wrapped w/ new Aspen Touring A/S radial tires (195/70/R14). Open the driver’s door and you will find a beautifully restored stock interior w/ a few minor upgrades, including: ‘Z’ logo embroidered into the top of the seats, a digital AM/FM Bluetooth sound system which fits nicely in the dash without any cutting and/or modifications, (2) boxed Kicker DSC69304 DS-Series 6"x9" Triaxial 3-Way speakers in the rear, and a carbon fiber stabilizer bar in the hatchback area, which looks excellent. The factory original AM radio is boxed up and will go with the car. Other than that, the interior appears factory correct in every way and is in beautiful condition throughout. The original gauges, lights, blinkers, etc. are in perfect working order and functioning correctly. Pop open the hood and inside the beautifully detailed engine compartment you will find the rebuilt original 2393cc single overhead-cam inline 6-cylinder motor linked to the rebuilt original 4-speed manual transmission. Upgrades includes a chrome air cleaner assembly, polished billet stabilizer bar and upgraded aluminum radiator. She fires up instantly, settling into a nice smooth idle, and she runs & performs beautifully in every way. The new aluminum radiator keeps her running nice & cool, even in 100+ degree summer weather. This is the finest driving early ‘Z’ car that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing, period, and there are absolutely no mechanical issues whatsoever. I drove to the local Starbucks and there was a huge crowd around the car within minutes, so if you don’t like attention then this is not the car for you. The first-year 1970 Datsun 240Z Coupes have become quite scarce, especially an example in such beautiful condition. It is not a concours-restored car, but it is certainly a very high-quality driver that is priced accordingly. If you have been searching for an early Datsun ‘Z’ car in arguably the best color combination, that can be driven anywhere without worrying about reliability, you have found your car!
