1973 Daihatsu Other Additional Info:
Here is my 1973 Daihatsu Hijet mini truck, sure there's no shortage of imported 90's Japanese mini trucks, but this is probably the only one of these you'll ever see.
Truck has a clean title, and was sold for the US market, in left hand drive, so no issues transferring to the state of your choice.
Let me preface some by saying this truck is nearly 50 years old, so there are issues, dents, dings, surface rust, parts that could be replaced, etc., but I use it frequently with no issues, and I never hesitate to take it anywhere I feel the urge to drive.
The engine is a 356cc ZM carbed two cylinder two stroke, numbers matching to the chassis tag. This was rebuilt with oversized pistons, new roller bearings, seals, etc. around 5 years ago and it still running great to this day. Could use a little better carb tuning but it's got plenty of power to haul anything I could ever fill the bed with until the attached 4 speed manual transmission runs out of gearing at 40-45 mph.
Trans and clutch shift smooth with no issues, it's honestly just a pleasure to drive if you're small enough to fit inside.
Brakes are great as well, master cylinder was replaced with a Wilwood unit, still has drums on all 4 corners.
Tires probably should be replaced soon, luckily since it's such a low speed lightweight vehicle, 10" DOT cart tires are cheap.
Which brings us to the next point, this thing is small, you can reach across and close the passenger door without leaning over. If you're 6ft tall don't bother trying to get in, your knees will be above the steering wheel, it's hilarious to watch.
The interior is in overall great shape like the rest of the truck considering the age, the seat is starting to show some wear just on the drivers back, stitching coming apart as pictured, headliner is starting to come unglued from the roof, and some of the small plastics are starting to get brittle and deteriorate (door handle bezels, seat bolt covers), but everything inside works perfectly. Dashboard and gauge cluster are in excellent condition, turn signals, fan, heater, lights, windows, locks, everything works as it should and you don't have to be gentle for fear of breaking something.
Door seals are non existent and need replaced, I'm sure suitable replacements could be found from another vehicle, but honestly the windows are always down and it's not exactly an airtight cab anyway so I never bothered.
The windshield washer bottle did get a hole kicked in it at some point, I've never felt the need to use/fix it though.
Windshield also has a rock chip in front of the driver, I assume this could be glued/repaired but I've never tried since it hasn't spread.
Being a 47 year old work truck there is superficial surface rust scattered around, the bed floor being the worst, some on the drivers side floorboard, but no flaking or pin holes, even the exhaust is very sound. It's been covered for nearly it's whole life and garaged for the past 4 years with me so it was not really exposed to the elements.
Truck bed floor also has some waves in it between the braces, the sides still fold down perfectly though, no issues.
The paint is original to the truck and shines up very nicely, but has plenty of scratches and dings, one minor dent on the roof and one on the headlight trim, nothing serious though and no previous accident damage or hidden body filler to worry about.
