1936 Cord BOAT TAIL SPEEDSTER -- Additional Info:
The Auburn Boattail Speedster is considered one of the most striking cars to ever hit the open road! As Auburn dedicated itself to art-deco design styles, it employed some of the best designers of the era. With the model 851 and 852 Speedster credits going to designer Gordon Buehrig, very few were ever made before Auburn had to close its doors forever. Because of this, they became highly sought after for high line collectors and reproduced heavily by a great number of replica car manufactures for enthusiasts. The graceful lines of the Auburn Boat-tail Speedster were literally to be a "show stopper". First introduced in the auto shows during the summer of 1934, the Auburn was a instant success. The exquisite vehicle captured the media's attention and the imagination of history. In all, some 600 units of this exclusive automobile were built. At this time, in the history of the Auburn they were largely built by hand. These vehicles like this one are produced at the Prototype Research & Development factory with the same meticulous attention to detail as the Auburn. The frame is jig welded and all mechanical components are jig installed. This produces a full rolling chassis, which then is mated with hand laminated, steel reinforced fiberglass body, complete with hand formed 14 gauge aluminum hood panels. The body has 12 coats of rubbed base clear to give a deep enduring finish. Specially selected rich leather touch material and the best of the Hartz convertible topping set off the vehicle interior while chromium plated bronze castings and stainless steel detail pieces complete the exterior. From its inception, this vehicle has served an exclusive clientele. In the thirties it was the darling of the Hollywood set. to such actors as Clark Gable, Errol Flynn and Al Johnson, traditionall, influential members of society such as doctor, business tycoons, and royalty owned Auburns. Since 1985 Prototype & Research Development LTD has been building reproduction and preserves the tradition even today. This 1936 Auburn Boattail Speedster is powered by a GM 406 c.i. V8 engine with aluminum heads producing 399 horse power and 473 ft lb torque mated three speed automatic transmission. Power front disc brakes, power steering, tilt wheel, GM front end and rear end, Stainless steel dual exhaust, Classic wire wheels, Big Wide whitewall tires, Leather interior, Banjo style steering wheel and more! This is a very fast car that drives out fantastic and demands attention where ever it goes. This is a nice driver that was built back in the 1980's and showing 13,xxx miles.
