I bought this car because of what it is, the first production hardtop and the last straight 8 and it didn't cost too much! But it took two years work before it was ready for the road. I am selling this car because I am 71 years old and have too many cars and it is time to move it along, I did what I wanted, bought it, fixed it, drove it, for 18 summers & about 13,000 miles! First the engine got filled with a secret ingredient and sat for two weeks before rotating, the radiator was full holding anti-freeze all those years, right up until I fired it up, when the water-pump quit. This engine is amazing, quiet, doesn't leak or use oil.The body only needed rust repair at the bottom of both door posts which didn't amount to more than a 6 inch by 3 inch area. The body was sanded to bare metal and painted in 2007 it is starting to blister in places that I believe is just a surface problem due to preparation and 18 years. The roof is the original black paintThe brakes, being familiar with Chrysler product brakes it was surprising the horse-shoe shaped retainers for the brake shoes appeared to have never been touched, somebody was good! The car had 60,012 miles on the odometer all 8 linings were worn to the thickness of a sheet of paper, the drums looked like new. The front end components, the universal joints were all like new, the shocks were replaced with gas-shocks and anything questionable mechanically was replaced. The seats were removed and the interior floor and the trunk floor were painted with POR 15 there was no rust anywhere on the floors. The leather covering of the instrument panel is cracked.I bought a parts car just for the steering wheel which is now needing some work but looks good. The original blue broadcloth seats are under the blue plaid seatcovers. All of the floppy window risers are intact! The crease in the left fender was done by me but I am blaming the lack of a neutral-safety-switch and I backed into a stone wall which damaged the stone-shield and put a dent in the rear bumper. This is Chrysler's first hardtop and is built on a convertible chassis, it so smooth to drive and ride it astounds people. The fluid-drive works perfectly and when one is familiar with fluid-drive it is regal compared to three on the tree! The photos show how the chrome is pitted, more on one side than the other, It is not Korean-war chrome so although it is pitted it can really shine. I was asked one night under bright lights if I had put "glitter" in the chrome, I explained to the young lad that the glitter was pits! One photo is of a dime-sized spot on the right front fender where the paint blistered. If convenient for the buyer they are welcome to whatever from a 50 New Yorker parts car with complete running gear.Any questions please ask.
This car has been driven approximately 13,000 miles while we have it and if someone else pays for the gas I would drive it to California is the confidence I have in this car!
