BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC 1948 CHRYSLER WINDSOR CONVERTIBLE !!!
VIN# 70684544
Vehicle History
This automobile was in great conditionwhen my wife & I purchased it from Skyway Classics (a reputable classic car dealer) located in Bradenton, Florida - it apparentlyspent most of its life in Florida and has no rust. After the PrePurchaseInspection (PPI) our inspector sent us his detailed report and then wehad the dealer goover the car well to address any minor issuesit needed - light bulbs, signals, windshield wipers, new window handles, fuel gauge, and afew coolant hose couplings/fittings & hoses to insure no leaks. We have loved driving the Chrysler to dinner or car shows and it's a lot of fun to drive and a real head-turner withthe convertible top up or down !!! The new red Convertible Top Boot will make it pop even more !!! Car appears to have had a very nice restoration a few years ago and must have always been garage kept ! The Chrysler is a sweet old lady and we love tocruise in her, but we have recentlybought a Ferrari California and now a Firebird Formula (on its way to us now) and have a few other cars so we are out of garage space so one car must go - only reason the 48 Chrysler is for sale - we are small time collectors and not dealers in any form orfashion ! See my 100% positive Ebay rating since 1999.
We hada 1940s Chrysler expert in Florida (Bill Trier Collector Vehicle Appraisers) do a thorough PPI inspection, test drive, and appraisal of the car before we purchased it and got a very detailed report - anyone who Bidsover $15,000.00 can request a copyof the inspection report and I shall forward it to them. The car appraised at $35,000.00 by theInspector- but that is not what we are asking for the Chrysler.
Odometer Reading is60,748 but due to the age of the vehicle no way to verify if original miles or not. I will say that whoever restored the car had a very good solid original to start with - so maybe. We were told that the car had been in one Florida family for a long time and was probably an original Florida car. I have not seenany evidence of any accidents with the car myself.
NEW / EXTRA PARTS: We have also purchased the following for the Chrysler (see photos below): 1)brand new redConvertible Top Boot for this fine ride - see photos below(Buyer will have to install snaps that came with the top boot); 2)new set of redChrysler emblem FloorMats;3) several very niceperiod correct1945-48 Chrysler Exterior Emblemsto consider installing on this nice car; 4) newred Seat Belts;5) newRock shields/guardsfor the Rear fenders (they were a '48 option); and one Wheel Vintiques 16 inch chrome wheel & hubcap (see photo below - my buddy paintedChrysleron it for me) - I had toyed with putting a full set on the '48 Chyrsler withthe 16 inch Firestone ribbed wide whitewall tires.
DRIVETRAIN:Engineis the original beloved Chrysler in-line straight 6 cylinder "SPITFIRE" engine which was a tried & true Chrysler very reliableengine for years & runs very smooth in this car.Transmissionis the Chrysler innovative hydraulic operated "Fluid Drive" which is a Semi-Automatic transmission - basically it has a High Rangeand a Low Rangeand a Reverse Gear-each Rangehas two speeds - so you can put the car in High Rangeand drive off and the car shifts itself up & down as needed - if you need more pull like on a hill you can put the transmission in Low Range which also has two gears and it will shift automatically. There is a "Safety Clutch" pedal to shift into High Range or Low Range or Reverse. Chrysler used this transmission for years before they went to fully automatic tranmissions like we have today.Starting- you put the car in neutral, turn on the key, then press the Electric Starter button on the dash - very easy.Steering- the steering is manual but the car sits high and has factory size tires so steering is easy.Brakes- drum hydraulic brakes work very well on the car and the suspension is in good shape as well. Coolant system and gauges appear to work fine and we have not had any overheating problem (in Louisiana). Original Owner's Manual is very helpful to review and operate the car.Do not know the age of the whitewall tires are but they are tubeless and we have had no problem driving on them. The Chrysler drives & stops very well !
CONVERTIBLE TOP. The top is a very nice Canvas Top that appears to be very recentwithnew interior top boot well work done as well. We had the rear seats pulled and the convertible Top Motor and top mechanisms inspected and it all works very well. The canvas top is heavier than the vinyl material used from the factory so the top is heavier than it was from thefactory and it needs a very little push up when you are raising it. The blue color is very pretty against the light blue exterior. Locks down good against the windshield frame when you tighten up the knob in the center of the top frame and is solid while you drive.
PAINT: Car was repainted when restored - I don't know when that was but it is still in great shape with a great shine to it. It is a really pretty light blue shade and turns a lot of heads when we go out in it. The restorer also spent a lot of money restoring the chrome & stainless work on the car and it presents very well (our appraiser estimated $15-20k on the chrome & stainless).
INTERIOR: Interior was restored in a factory style pattern in white & medium blue, new sun visorsand new floor carpet as well. Dash appears to have been repainted and dash chrome is nice. Dash gauges and dash lights work. Radio does not work and heater fan works on and off. Clock does not work. The trunk was also recovered very nicely during the restoration and is in great shape.
OWNER'S MANUAL & A 1948 CHRYSLER DEALER BROCHURE COME WITH THE CAR (see photo below).
