1965 Chrysler 300 Sedan
I’ve owned and restored roughly twenty 1960’s muscle cars and cruisers since 2001. I’ve done a couple full ‘frame off’ restorations with lots of help from a good friend who is a respected restorer and owns a large shop with an excellent reputation. I’m not an expert or professional mechanic/body man but I have done enough work and owned enough of these cars to have resources and a good idea of what goes into restoring, maintaining or just enjoying them.
A Brief History of the 1962-1971 Chrysler 300:
For seven years, starting with the 1955 300 hardtop and progressing to the 1961 300G, Chrysler created some of the most exclusive blends of luxury and performance in all of America. The Chrysler letter series set speed records in Daytona and were driven by some of popular culture’s coolest customers. Hoping to capitalize on the renown of these halo cars, the company introduced non-letter versions of the Chrysler 300 in 1962.
This big brute runs and drives really well and a lot of the heavy lifting has been done by previous owners. The 383 had a top end rebuild (valve job, gaskets) maybe 4 years 200 miles ago, brake lines were all done around the same time. Gas gauge works, the wipers work, the defroster works, etc. Needs carpet and headliner but I have new ones in boxes to go with the car and there are some rips in the seats. This would be great candidate to go flat black or rat rod, it would be very menacing or you could take it back to all original as it hasn’t been overly monkeyed with. I bought the car from a friend who did quite a bit of work but just couldn’t quite get it to the finish line and had a shift in priorities. So work has been done here and there and it has been stored in a garage for at least the last 4-5 years.
Exterior, Body, Trunk & Undercarriage: Definitely a good amount of rust bubbling, chipping, scaling, scratches and blemishes. The good news is that I don’t see a lot that’s rusted all the way through. I’ve got pix of the underside, quarters, fenders and frame that show the true condition. Chrome is pretty pitted and fogged in some spots. Exhaust is not very old, I believe it was done when the engine was done. Sounds nice and throaty but not overly loud. Floor pans and trunk are surprisingly solid.
Interior: Some rips and tears all the way around. New carpet and headliner in boxes to go with car.
Engine: Newer Edelbrock carb. Engine got a top end rebuild a few years back and probably has less than 200 or so miles on it since. Runs well, should be tuned up just because it’s been sitting. It does ‘miss’ or ‘stutter a little at idle
Transmission: Shifts smoothly. I don’t know if it’s original to the car.
Rear Axle: Not sure if it’s original or what the gear ratio is.
Electrical: Most items seems to work including interior & dash lights, blinkers, horn, brake lights etc. Dash light is intermittent.
Mechanical: Brake lines were all done in 2012 to the tune of $1800 and it has been run very little since. Rides smooth, brakes well, shifts well. It’s a nice big cruiser.

FYI: There is no NH title for this car as NH does not issue titles for vehicles that are more than (15) years old or require them for ownership. I have sold cars to many different states and have never had a problem. The car will come with a Bill-of-Sale, the NH registration form (proving ownership) and a copy of the NH law regarding title exempt vehicles, which is on a form issued by the New Hampshire Dept of Motor Vehicles.I have a VIN Verification form filled out by a local service station.
