1949 Chrysler Town And Country -- Additional Info:
The Chrysler Town and Country is one of the most cherished classic American automobiles from the 1940's. While the moniker may have survived to this day the original Town and Countrys from 1941-1950 were best known for their beautiful wood trim. Chrysler typically produced no more than 1000 of these fine cars a year in this period. Each model was a product of painstaking panel and trim labor that often delayed showroom deliveries. Intricate joinery and moldings were fabricated to artfully frame the car's contour lines. Town and Countrys from 1941 to 1948 wore the full wood-clad panels to the rear of the firewall. In 1949 Chrysler the genuine wood sides in favor of more conveniently fabricated NiLoc panels which were dropped mid-year into production. Ultimately the Town and Country's body contours and beltline would be the only wooden elements framed in wood and all panels beneath the trim were metal thereafter. The 1949 Chrysler Town and Country convertible shown here is in excellent condition with handsome wood-trim. This is a late year model featuring a wood-framed body with steel side panels. A beautiful coat of Chrysler's burgundy maroon body color are revealed between the wood trim members. Wood is in very good condition and appears to be faithfully maintained. The Haartz canvas top is in very good condition showing slight wear and is free of perforations. The Tartan plaid upholstery is in excellent condition. Dashboard and gauges are likewise excellent. Beneath the hood the straight eight engine looks very good with very clean compartment detail. The undercarriage is consistent with the overall condition of the car. Underside panels and frame have very little if any wear. This Town and Country is an exceptionally kept mature restoration that's priced within the reach of the aspiring classic collector. Youtube video available upon request.
