1965 Chevrolet Corvette Additional Info:
1965 Corvette / Big Block 4 Speed Roadster. Let me start by saying "not for the numbers matching purist", perhaps "Pro Touring/ Restmod is a better description, but this car is an absolute blast to run through the gears! Power comes from a four bolt main 454, 10 to 1 compression ratio with mildly reworked GM "990" casting, rectangular port, open chamber heads, CompCams solid lifter camshaft (approx. 600" lift), Crane Gold "Race Series" rocker arms, Hooker sidepipe headers w/ 2 1/8" primaries, vintage GM #3933163 aluminum intake, MSD tach drive distributor w/ 6al box, topped off with a "dialed in" Holley 830HP carb. The Muncie M20 4 speed was recently rebuilt, with the addition of a new input shaft and sliders. Also included is a factory replacement style clutch disc, pressure plate and throwout bearing. Hurst "Competition Plus" shifter, (
new steel bushings)with a stock appearing "lockout style handle."New driveshaft u-joints, balanced driveshaft. New halfshaft u-joints, as per previous owner. Rear is a 3.55 posi.
The 4 wheel power disc brake system consists of an all new master cylinder, calipers, all new steel brake lines, hoses, unions and power brake booster. It also has a new power brake booster reservoir. New wheel bearings and seals also. The parking brake components were all replaced with SS parts, all new cables and miscellaneous small items. Works well. The car also has a 1.125" front sway bar with new hardware.
The cooling system features a 4 core "big block style" radiator and clutch fan, and stays cool in virtually any driving condition.
The interior was completely removed and Hush Mat was installed on all surfaces, including the doors. Additional sound and heat insulation was also installed. This made a huge difference, and makes the car feel solid and quiet. The seat frames were rebuilt and the seat covers correctly reinstalled. The black carpet is in good condition, and looks better than pictured. The dash cluster was restored, gauges cleaned, detailed or replaced. The entire wiring harness, which includes headlight, engine, dash and tail light sections were replaced with Lectric Limited components. All the interior lights, dash, glove box and warning flashers work as they should. The clock was replaced with a new quartz unit. The glove box door was detailed, with new aluminum insert and logo.
The doors were pulled and disassembled. All the door tracks, felt items and door seals were replaced. The window regulators were repaired, cleaned, greased and reinstalled. The hinge mounting plates were re-riveted, which gets rid of the sag most people attribute to the hinges. The door locks, glove box and ignition cylinders were all replaced. The door pulls and window cranks were replaced. The door panels are better than driver quality, the dash pads are not perfect, but very good. Door sills are new. Overall, the interior looks good to very good.
The convertible top is a new Al Knoch item, professionally installed. Looks good! The car also has a factory hardtop, painted to match, in good condition. The windshield is new, as per previous owner. The wiper motor and washer pump were recently rebuilt by Corvette Specialties Md.
The car rolls on 16 x 8 American Racing "Torque Thrust" wheels with staggered size BF Goodrich, G-Force Sport radials. The tires are older, but plenty of tread left.
The bumpers are driver quality at best, with some pitting underneath on the fronts, rears are slightly better. Headlight motors work as they should, the right side is new. The limit switches and indicator lights all work. The car has an older repaint, and is "20 footer" status, although the gloss is good. The front left fender has a blister issue mainly near the base of the windshield, and there are a few touch-ups also, but is still is presentable "as is".
I've owned the car about 2 years, and have spent a good deal of time wrenching on the car. There was a lot of focus on carb tuning and ignition / advance curve work. The engine fires right up, has a strong lope at idle, and shakes the car with an "old school" rumble. Really sounds good! It has plenty of horses, tons of torque coming out of a corner.Vehicle has a clear Fl. title in my name.
The soft top frame is an early C2 type, with the round tube #2 header. Nice condition, new weatherstripping. All accelerator components are new oem style, and fuel tank and sender are new as per previous owner.
The total miles on engine are believed to be around 10k. The previous owner purchased the car from Mershons in Illlinois back in 2008. The odometer was then at zero, and the engine appeared freshened up. The block has an additional threaded oil cooler boss above the oil filter, consistent with a 4 bolt main bottom end. It has a Moroso 7 qt. steel pan with a high output pump, as per saved receipts. Great oil pressure, ground clearance is closer than stock. Also has a new Optima Red Topbattery and tray. New basic speakers in dash, radio is inop, but fills a space. There appears to have been a small frame repair on right rear kick up below trailing arm, common, and could be left as is. Runs strong, smooth and straight, handles the road well at cruising speed. The car does have a pair of frame braces/gussets, going from the #3 crossmember to the inner frame kick ups, used asa performance handling upgrade, done in the past. They protrude slightly into the package tray area, basically concealed by rear carpet and are not in the way of the folded top.
