This auction is for my 1992 Chevrolet Silverado K3500. It has 120,475 miles on it right now and I have owned it for 5 years. It was originally from Arizona and has no body rust. There is some surface rust on the frame and underneath the truck but the body has no rust. The truck has the 6.5 Turbo Diesel engine which in 1992 was a VIN code “F” which meant it was emissions exempt and was pure mechanical injection. The truck has a 4 speed Automatic transmission and 4 wheel drive.
The truck runs and drives great. Since I bought it I performed all the usual 100K mile maintenance that is due for a 6.5. It has a brand new Injection Pump from SSDiesel, new injectors from SSDiesel, new glow plugs from SSDiesel, new lift pump and new oil pressure switch. The previous owner had replaced the radiator and the water pump before I bought it. The oil cooler lines are new GM. The truck has functioning AC, converted to R143A. Truck has a block heater and it works. I have also wired up a separate HD relay to a glow plug override switch to give the glow plugs just a little more time when needed in the cold weather. Truck has an open element air cleaner. I had a downpipe built custom for the truck to eliminate the “pancake” downpipe that comes from the factory. The exhaust is straight 3” all the way back from the turbo with no muffler. It has a very mean note at the tailpipe but the overall noise is not obscene at all since the turbo quiets the engine noise through the exhaust. You can hear the turbo real nice with this combination of the air filter and the exhaust.
The digital climate control and the radio work fine. I have new speakers installed at all 4 corners. Power windows and locks. Tilt Wheel. Full Silverado trim with all the options for 1992 besides the equalizer for the tape deck. The truck has WeatherTech Vent Shades. The tailgate latches just fine unlike most trucks this old.
The interior is in good shape, the seats have no cuts or tears in them. The door panels are in decent shape considering they are cardboard from the factory and the headliner does have a few cuts, please see the pictures. The headliner is not sagging at all. The dash top is cracked from the AZ sun, please see the pictures.
I have wired in an AUX input into the OEM sound amp and there is a 1/8” AUX port in the ashtray so you can plug it your iPod or other device and play it through the speakers.
I have installed an under the rail bedliner and bed rail caps. The truck has General Grabber AT2 tires, LT265/75/16 Load Range E and a matching spare. The tires have about 20k miles on them but still look great, never had any repairs and the spare is brand new.
The shocks were replaced by the previous owner from what I am being told. The truck rides great, there are no suspension noises unless you hit a good sized bump but this is stiff 1 ton suspension on a 24 year old truck so please keep that in mind. The steering feels fine and there are no loose joints or components. The brakes feel fine, there is no vibration nor noise. I have been changing the oil with Rotella 15W40 every 2000-3000 miles religiously. The engine does not make any abnormal noises and has plenty of power. The trans shifts fine and it a 4 speed with overdrive so the truck drives nice. I average about 14MPG mixed city and highway.
The truck has had one repaint by the previous owner. It was originally dark blue with the silver stripe down the sides. It has been repainted all one color in a shade darker with metallic flakes. You can barely tell the difference in the door jambs. The body of the truck is pretty darned straight. There are a few nicks and small dings here and there. It is by no means perfect, it was used as a private working truck by the previous owner and myself. To the best of my knowledge it has never had a plow on it. It has a full wiring setup for a 7 pin trailer connector but the brake controller itself went bad so you would need to wire in another brake controller. There is a CB Radio in the pictures but it is NOT included in the auction. What is included is the crane (not pictured) that attaches to the mount in the right rear portion of the bed. It lets you pick up heavy objects and rotate them into the bed.
The truck is 24 years old and does need a few things. The drivers door latch will not lock. The drivers door hinge has new pins and bushings and the door sits and closes fine but the detent mechanism that stops the door at 2 points in its travel path is broken and the detents don’t exist. The windshield has a crack from the bottom to about 3/4 of the way to the top on the pass side. It does not at all obstruct the drivers view and has never bothered me.
The truck has a small seep from the trans pan and a moderate seep from the oil pan. Neither one rarely leaves a drip on the driveway.
The high beams portion of the turn signal stalk does not work. Turn signals work fine though.
I am selling this truck ONLY because I just bought a newer Sierra that I have had my eye on for a while. This is a terrific truck and is a real head turner without a doubt. Since I have owned it I have had 5 people leave me notes on the windshield when parked at a store wanting to buy the truck. I never kept the notes. A lot of people know me by this truck and some people whom I spoke to a few years ago remember me as the guy with the big blue truck when we reconnect later, this just happened last week. I mostly drive the truck on the weekends and when I need to haul something for a house project. When I drive it, its hard to believe that it is 24 years old. It is a classic and when it is all cleaned up and I am driving it on the weekend it feels special, like driving a classic car to a car show. At the same time, it is a truck that I have taken on 400 mile trips and drive year round and haul lumber in and use as a work bench when needed. Then I clean it up and it would fit in at a car show. I am not happy about selling this truck but my needs have changed and I have to move on. This would be a great truck for anyone that either wants a cool “classic” truck or wants to get an affordable diesel or just needs a good truck.
I have tried to describe it the best I can. If you have any questions please contact me via eBay and I will give you my number so we can talk on the phone. The truck is located in the near west suburbs of Chicago and is listed locally and is available to be seen in person if you are local. I am a Master Mechanic and have worked on these engines as a Mechanic in the ARMY. I know these trucks and these engines and this is a great truck just needs a new owner who will care for it and enjoy it as I have, I will be sad to see it go.
Thank you for looking, please check the pictures, please email me with any questions and I can provide more pictures if needed, eBay has limited me to 24 pictures but I have more!
This is a no-reserve auction, so the truck will sell to the highest bidder!
