The Chevrolet Camaro served as the official Indianapolis 500 pace car four times between 1967 and 1993. Perhaps the most famous and iconic of all Indy pace cars, regardless of make or model, is the 1969 Camaro, which paced the 53rd running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 1969.
The pace car was announced to the media at a February press conference in Indianapolis, aided by a display vehicle that showed off the pace car colors. Chevrolet supported the race by providing the actual pace car, a backup pace car, a pace car replica (with air conditioning, power top, and show car finish) to be presented to the winner of the race, and a fleet of courtesy and support vehicles. This fleet included an additional 130 pace carreplicas, 16 Impala station wagons, 18 pickups, two Suburbans, and one van.
Replicas of the pace cars were also white RS/SS convertibles with white tops ordered under RPO Z11. The Z11 option was announced in the February 4, 1969 Product Bulletin. Chevrolet also stated that “...we plan to build replicas of the Pace Car to be sent to nearly all of the 6400 Chevrolet dealers across the country”. Actual production was 3,675 cars; this number includes the Camaros that were provided as courtesy and track vehicles at the race.

What's Under the Hood?:
The motor under this hood is aRARE AND VALUABLE350Small Block Chevy that was taken out of a 1968 Camaro. The motor runs a Rochester 4-Barrel Carburetor, Holley Street Dominator Aluminum Intake, Cowl Induction, and much more! It has also been recently tuned up with new spark plugs, wires, adjusted carburetor, new oil and oil filter, etc. It has the FACTORY CORRECT Muncie 4-Speed Transmission that shifts on the dime! The rear end of this beauty is a strong and FACTORY ORIGINAL GM 12-Bolt 3.73 Gear Ratio Positive Traction rear end.
This Camaro stops on the money with its factory style power brake system using disc brakes on the front. As previously mentioned, the engine compartment has been FULLY DETAILED and restored (with cowl induction) to original factory specifications.
The Body and Exterior:
This car's exterior and body is in such immaculate shape that we thought it would be best to describe it in its own section!
The trunk in these early generation Camaro's was ALWAYS the first thing to rot and rust out. The trunk in THIS car has been fullyand professionallyrestored and welded in. It has been painted with the correct original style spatter paint.
It is VERY RARE to find Camaro's with a trunk in this shape! Trunks in the older cars were always glued in when they rotted out and never re-welded in. This body restoration clearly had its time taken to be done right as you can see by all of the pictures.
