1986 Chevrolet Corvette COUPE Additional Info:
MILEAGE
63,248 original miles
SELLING PRICE
The selling price IS negotiable AND we are definitely going to sell the car and prefer to do so as soon as possible . This means that we are NOT going to relist the car 20 more times like many others do with theirs hoping to wring every last dollar out of it, but we are also not going to jump on the very first offer we get either if it is not fairly close to our asking price . We will sell it right away if the offer is very close to our asking price . If an offer is fairly far away from our asking price, we will wait for a few days to see if we get a better offer . If you make a fairly low offer and it is the highest offer by the end of the auction, we will most likely sell it to you because we simply want to move on with our lives.
OWNERSHIP HISTORY
We are a private party, not a dealership . This is very nice Corvette that has never been raced or abused or beat to death . We are the second owners . The original owner was a Woman and we bought it as a third car for my wife to drive occasionally on weekends for fun . She is a non smoker so the interior doesn't smell like a dirty ash tray . She also didn't wear perfume so it doesn't smell like Lilacs either.

PAYMENT
A deposit of $1,000.00 must be made immediately at the end of the auction . The balance must be paid in full within exactly 3 days of the close of the auction unless you contact me prior to the end of the auction and I agree to something else . You are bidding to own the car, not on an opportunity to decide after the auction whether you want it or not.
BODY AND PAINT
The body is laser straight and all the panels line up nicely, and from what I can tell, the body appears to be all original with no repairs . The bumpers follow the shape of the fiberglass well unlike the bumpers on many other Corvettes and they are not splitting or heavily cracked like many others are.
We are fairly picky people so I can tell you that the paint is not perfectly flawless and does not look like it just rolled off the showroom floor, and it does have a couple very small chips here and there, however, none of them stand out to the point where it looks bad, and it is not like a million people have opened the door on it . The worst spot is a small spot on the corner of the left rear bumper where the paint is worn from frequently putting a car cover on it.
On the positive side, the paint is definitely still shiny and not sun faded or cracking anywhere, and it definitely looks nice enough where it fits in at local car shows which we have taken it to many times.
INTERIOR
The interior is very clean . There are no cracks in the dash pad which was one of our criteria . The seats were redone with replacement Corvette style seat covers and don't have any cracks or tears or noticeable wear marks and look nearly new and the carpet is very clean.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT
It is completely stock and has no obvious leaks and there is no weeping around the pcv valve like many of these cars have. It has never been spray washed or detailed in any way to hide anything or make it seem better than it is, but as you can see, it is still extremely clean and even the suspension arms look very clean and nearly new.
TIRES AND WHEELS
The rims are very nice and not all scratched up.
The tires are have at least 70% tread left and probably more like 80% left.
AIR CONDITIONING
The A/C did work fine when we stored it.
DRIVING EVALUATION
The car drives very straight and is not loose feeling and doesn't squeak or rattle or drift or wander on the highway at 70 mph etc, and the transmission shifts very solid and does not spin up between gears.
KNOWN PROBLEMS
The only real problem is that the check engine light occasionally comes on . I was told by the people at the emissions testing station that this was caused by a bad oxygen sensor because the car actually easily passed the emissions test and had low emissions readings and starts and idles and runs perfectly fine and doesn't smoke.
RECENT REPAIRS
We had it looked over during a periodic inspection even though it ran and drove fine and found one of the shocks had a slight leak so we installed new KYB Gas Adjust shocks . They also inspected the gas tank seal because the original ones are known to weep a little when they get old and we saw a little weeping around it so we had that replaced which was a whopping $73.00 for the gasket alone, and since the fuel pump comes out with the assembly that is removed to install a new gasket, we had a new fuel pump installed also because these too are known to occasionally go out after 60k or 70k miles and this many years.
OVERALL CONDITION
We looked for a very long time and at a lot of other Vette's of this era before we found one we were happy with, and during our search, we found that most cars were not accurately described and many were not even close, so it was a long and frustrating search that we were almost ready to give up on, so we were very happy when we finally found this one and were fortunate enough to be the first ones there as they had a few other people on their way to see it.
All I can tell you from this experience is to ask a lot of questions before you get in the car and head out to see a car you might be interested in, especially if you have very far to go to see it.
We did not expect a perfect, flawless showroom looking 20 year old car when we bought it 9 years ago and it is not that type of car, however we did want a nice clean car with low miles that was well taken care of that didn't have any serious mechanical or cosmetic issues, and we were willing to accept what we considered small flaws here and there.
PHOTOS
My apologies for not having better photos at this time, unfortunately we didn't take many photos before we stored it because we never thought we would sell it, therefore, some of them are a little dark because they were taken inside the facility we store it a when we are not using it.
The car is a little dirty because we didn't have time to wash it before we put it in storage.
VEHICLE VALUE
All I can tell you is that I seriously doubt you will find a Vette around this year with this low mileage and this good of condition anywhere for less than at least $7,000.00 and it would likely be more . I just reviewed sold auctions on Ebay for this era of car and ours is a very fair deal by comparison for the condition it is in and the low mileage it has.
SUSPENSION
You can see how clean the sway bar and upper and lower suspension arms and the new KYB gas shocks in the tire photo are . Notice that there is no grease or heavy dirt build up.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT
You can see how clean the engine compartment and suspension is . It has NEVER been washed off or detailed to try and make it look new like many other cars have had done . You are looking at 63,248 miles worth of dirt and it still looks pretty clean because it was never driven in the rain or on muddy streets etc.
VIEWING THE CAR
I encourage you to look at the car in person which can usally be done from 10 am until 3 pm Monday through Friday.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
CORVETTE CYLINDER HEADS, ENGINE TEMPERATURE, AND ENGINE POWER
Our engine came with aluminum cylinder heads from the factory.
The 1985 and early 1986, Corvettes had basic cast iron heads with straight spark plugs and an open combustion chamber . Near mid 1986, GM switched to aluminum heads with angled spark plugs and closed combustion chambers. These aluminum heads not only removed around 50 lbs from the engine and the front of the car, they also had improved combustion chambers which provided a little more power. These heads also increased the compression from 9.1 to 9.5 which increased horsepower, torque, and throttle response a little throughout the entire rpm range.
The engines with the cast iron heads were prone to running a little hot, especially, in hot climates with the air conditioning on. The aluminum head engines do not have that problem.
For all the reasons mentioned above, the aluminum head engines are significantly better than the cast iron head ones, and therefore, a Corvette that has an aluminum head engine is worth more than one that doesn't.
INCREASING POWER
If for some reason you want to increase the power of these cars, you can simply get a computer chip that can easily be installed at home in in just a few minutes. The prices average from $60.00 to $150.00. There are also places that will make a custom chip specifically for your car for around $200.00.
We never installed a chip in this car because we never drove it hard, however, my friend had a 1987 Corvette and I drove his car back to back the same day without the chip and then with a chip, and the difference was dramatic and the chip made it very, very, fast.
