I purchased the car on April 2nd, 26. It feels more of a quarter mile car than it is streetable. The engine runs good, but the rpms need to be tuned down, and it seems to get vapor lock after running it in hot weather. I have not used it for short trips since the summer began when I ran into that scenario. When the weather was cooler back in April is when I used it a couple of times with no issues. Since June, I started it once a week or every two weeks and backed it into the driveway then back into the garage The guy who built it said something about the cam in it and that the 4.3L was originally fuel injected. The car was originally a burgundy color inside and out! I have some of the brochures that came with the car originally with the original owner's name. The car was bought in Colorado Springs at Williams car dealership. The body is straight, and the builder had it painted at Maaco, so there are some paint chips mainly on the front grill area. When the builder obtained the car, he also sourced the quarter windows and seals due to it having plexi-glass instead. Windows are good with the front windshield having some overspray from the gray interior paint. The TH350 does leak and needs to be resealed. The picture of the odometer is from a couple of months ago, so it has increased slightly since then. Rust in the picture in the bottom of the floorpan appears to be only surface level. It does fine on the road especially on long winding roads where the light car paired with the S-10 drive train and 4.3L feels good with the exhaust rumbling. Where it doesn't feel as great is in stop and go traffic due to the original brake set up and over certain road conditions such as bumps and pitted roads.
The reason I am putting the Chevette up for sale is I recently bought two early 2000 daily driver vehicles, and they need some maintenance attention; otherwise, I would keep and admire the workmanship that was put into this Chevette. I have owned two Chevettes. The first one, I daily drove for about 6 years. This one not so much, but it is a great little custom built Chevette!
