Have you been looking for a great Chevelle, but every one of them seems to be blowing up your budget? Take a closer look at this 1971 coupe. With great copper paint, a tidy black interior, and a numbers-matching V8 heart, it checks all the right boxes, including a value price.
This coupe makes a stellar first impression. A professional application of the copper paint really pays off on a Chevelle with this level of fit and finish. The panels are laser-straight and gaps are quite uniform, and so it earns its precious metal paintjob. Plus, the modern clearcoat really gives it an impressive presence in the sunshine. This serves as a great canvas for all the black elements. The Super Sport dual stripes are painted on, and so the shine is uniform over the hood and trunk, and everyone loves the premium feeling that a vinyl roof has on a hardtop coupe. It' was built before '70s new bumper laws so those big chrome kings fit much snugger to the body, and the rear one still houses the taillights in a very cool way. And of course it won't be a correct SS without boldly resting on iconic Rally wheels.
Open the door, and it feels like a time machine taking you back 45 years. The vinyl seats, capering, door panels, and dash all look fantastic with great black appearance to match the exterior accent color. Plus, there's plenty of bright factory interior trim to break up this sea of darkness. When you sit behind the factory two-spoke wheel and gaze at the full-length horizontal speedometer, you start to realize just how authentic this Chevelle feels. Everything is as it should be right down to the heat/defrost sliders and the factory AM radio that still works!
As much as you like the authentic interior, the best originality awaits you under the hood. That's the original, numbers-matching 307 cubic-inch V8. This one looks exceptionally honest in the engine bay with the bold Chevy orange on the block and valve covers. Even the original stickers are still on the air cleaner. This motor has been treated to good maintenance, so it fires up with ease, and at that time it also reveals a little secret. The exhaust note is a little more rumble than you might have expected. That's because there are long-tube headers feeding the dual exhaust. So while it's tough to spot this upgrade when you open the hood, it does give you an extra kick of performance when it counts. But this Chevelle is at its best when cruising. That's why it has great driving features like power steering, a three-speed automatic transmission, power brakes, and the modern grip of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires.
