1967 Camaro 396 SS 325HP L35

Overview
A factory, 396ci/325HP, (L35) 4-speed stick 1967 Camaro coupe, with 27,000+original (documented) miles. 22 years ago, it had 25,000+ documented miles.

Robert Delana ordered the car in the original unique Tahoe Turquoise, with frontdisk brakes, PB-AM/FM Radio, Comfort-Tilt Steering Wheel, Center Console and picked it up at Brown Chevy in Cohasset Mass. on 4/22/67 for $3,626.20.

You may never find another 1967 Camaro with a more complete history file that has been obsessively documented by its previous owners. The history file includes the original warranty book, 1967 bill of sale, owners manual, protecto plate, original taxpayer certificate, and every tiny tag and sticker original to the car. Everything that was ever done to the car is compiled in 4 large notebooks, a binder of photographs and even a vintage VHS video 27 minutes long in extreme detail which we converted and included in a link.

Car was driven locally until 1974 and for reasons unknown it was garaged for the next 16 - 17 years. The original owner transferred the car and the original history file in 1991- 1992. The second owner documented (1992), "To the best of my knowledge the car never has been in any type of accident. All sheet metal appears to be original and in good condition. All safety items including engine and drivetrain were rebuilt. All hoses, bushings, gaskets and basically all rubber items were replaced, 99.9% of all nuts, bolts brackets were all reconditioned and reused. The original factory markings on the undercarriage could be seen and I redid them."

At this time (1992) it was resprayed to its original color using GM type lacquer (no clear coat). All original panels (correctly stamped) line up just as they came from the factory. The only modification to the car was a Hurst shifter added in 1968 that we verified in the video created 22 years ago. It has been returned to original condition using a replacement Muncie shifter (and ball). Only other changes from what is seen in the video (in 22 years and 2000 miles of travel) is the GM compass (stick on windshield), a tissue box and the T3 headlamps have all disappeared. And, the clock which we see running in the video seems to have stopped, although it was rebuilt years back.

Outside

Chrome is straight throughout and maintains a shine with no pitting and has a visible patina correct for its age. It has the Z21 exterior moulding. All of the glass is original to this car, (LOF Code GZ - April 196, vent window PPG Code 2637). Also has the original steel rally wheels (DG code, made for disc brake cars), and new factory type period correct bias ply tires (F70-14-4 PR- red stripes).

Inside

The 100% stock configuration continues with the deluxe interior (Z87) white vinyl seats with black piping (tear shown in video has been replaced). GM carpets and headliner were replaced in 1992. The original unique tilt steering (N33) wheel is in excellent condition. The trademark double-hump dash is clean with clear gauges and a working factory original PB-AM/FM radio. Everything looks and works as it did from the factory (except clock as noted).

Motor and Firewall Tags / Markings

We take this part very seriously. The Trim Tag or Cowl Tag for decoding information has never been molested in any way. It has the original factory "GM Rosetta Rivets" and the factory spray in white, typical for a first gen., also all the factory markings are clearly visible. Please remember that, "tampering" with a "VIN" tag is a federal crime. "Tampering" is undefined in the statue but, the courts have determined it to mean: Altering (changing any information on the tag), removing (using the Rossette Rivets, possession of Rossette Rivets is considered "Prima Fascia" evidence of tampering), or swapping a tag from one car to another car. So, to be 100% clear........"The Trim Tag or Cowl Tag for decoding information has never been molested in any way. It has the original factory "GM Rosetta Rivets" and the factory spray in white, typical for a first gen., also all the factory markings are clearly visible."

The 396 motor is the factory original motor born with this car. It is the original to this car motor and it has the factory broach marks - factory code stamping, and correct date coded block. From the motor heads to the bell housing on the motor, they are all factory original to this car (based on its casting numbers and partial VIN stamped (the numbers and stampings were also reviewed by knowledgeable Camaro devotees). The entire drive train is original to this car as it left the factory.

The motor maintains its 100% stock appearance. All the components of the motor are correct and original to the car (for example, the distributor, # 1111169, 7E8 May 8, 67, the voltage regulator is 1119515 7D, April 1967). We have pages of documentation, breaking down every component by part number and date of manufacture.

Underneath

The car retains its original stock Muncie (M20 close ratio) four-speed transmission, Heavy Duty suspension, Special Steering (N44), and also features original 12 bolt differential with a 3.07:1 (G96) ratio according to its AK number stamp. The frame is original and free of any corrosion. Original front power disc and rear drum brakes, calipers and rotors The key brake parts appear never to have been off the car and look great at 27,000 miles.

History Files

The original Protect-O-Plate in the name of the first owner (Robert Delano) is included along with the owners manual, warranty book, 1967 bill of sale, radio manual, 4 notebooks, a detailed folder for each owner, clear pages with mileage registration and insurance information, and a VHS video tape (converted and uploaded to YouTube). The car is sold with a clean New York State title. The car has only been driven 200 - 300 miles in the past couple of years and for a car with only 27,000 miles, it feels amazingly like a brand new factory car.

THE TRUE VALUE

In 1967 GM was popping out cars faster than a PEZ dispenser, and you may find a few newly restored examples put together from multiple aftermarket and OEM parts. But, there is a big difference and a different driving feel to an original car. Today (and tomorrow), the real escalating value is realizing and owning a car which is in factory delivered condition. We believe there is a select group of people that can truly appreciate this piece of GM history, maintained in its original condition, with all the unique documented history.
