BODYWORK/TRIM
There was no shortage of great color options for the legendary Chevelle, ut it's hard to argue the effect Cranberry Red has on the car's sturdy lines. Recently massaged and sprayed, his correct and glossy Chevy looks great decked in black Super Sport top stripes and thoroughly buffed clear. Shut lines are straight all around, ith rockers, oors and fenders that work well together. There's a roster of new chrome that complements a correct Black top. Naturally, hat impressive appearance is a direct result of a body-off, otisserie restoration that was completed in 2009 by Sugarloaf, ennsylvania's Tony's Muscle Cars. And today, he car rolls as one high caliber classic that's clean enough to show and nice enough to drive!
ENGINE
Although the second-generation Super Sport's ferocious Turbo Jet V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, t actually punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. Pull this classic's stainless lanyards and you'll find a correct cowl induction system that's cleanly integrated into a completely finished, atin Black frame. At the center of that frame, correctly decaled, ingle-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen in to a correct 4557 Holley, hich is threaded onto a 1970-exclusive 3963569 Winters intake. At the back of that intake, traditional points distributor sequences fire through Suppressor High Heat Protection wires. Below those wires, orrect exhaust manifolds and old school emissions hardware frame date-correct 3964291 heads. And in front of those heads, M hoses channel water past a correct fan and rebuilt alternator with the help of a beefy radiator and familiar tower clamps. This past year, he Chevy Orange block, hich wears a correct 3963512 casting number behind a matching VIN stamp and March ( C ) 31st (31), 970 (70) casting date, as professionally overhauled by Drake Engines of Rochester, ew York. And everything, rom the car's fresh brake booster and Delco-topped battery all the way to its stainless fluid lines and mirrored valve covers, ooks much nicer than anything that left GM's factories.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Naturally, his convertible's road-ready chassis has been restored to the same high standards as the aforementioned body panels and engine compartment. A traditional coat of Satin Black paint provides a great foundation for a slew of tags, nspection marks and factory-accurate details. Behind the stout big block, 1970-model Muncie 'Rock Crusher' spins power to a 1970-model 12-bolt axle. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a heavy-duty F41 suspension, hich centers factory power steering between stiff springs, oxed control arms and sturdy sway bars. The car's rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brake system is present, ccounted for and functions exceptionally well. The aforementioned exhaust manifolds dump spent gases in to true-dual pipes, hich breathe through Xlerator turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips. Power meets the pavement through stylish Super Sport wheels, hich lap F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires around stainless trim rings and requisite "SS" center caps. And the car's soild floors are coated in correct Oxide Red pigment.
INTERIOR
Featuring a host of new components, nd decked in correct Black vinyl, his convertible's fully restored interior feels comfortable and inviting. Its slick front bucket and rear bench seats, hich feature embossed weave patterns that were designed to keep passenger's backs cool, how hardly any signs of wear. In front of those seats, straight and crack-free dash hangs a deluxe Chevelle gauge cluster above correct climate controls and a Delco AM radio. Below that dash, resh black carpet centers a chrome Muncie shifter inside an attractive, tainless-trimmed console. At the sides of that carpet, lean door panels hang spotless "SS" emblems between crank windows and manual door locks. In front of the driver, satin-spoke Chevrolet Rally Wheel keeps everybody pointed in the right direction. And behind the passengers, fully restored trunk centers a full-size spare and correct jack between a fresh mat and correct decklid decals.
