1987 Chevrolet Other Pickups Additional Info:

This is the Ultimate “SQUARE BODY” Completely Original Truck Ready for Your “Dream Truck” Project. 1987 Chevrolet R30, 3+3, Crew Cab, Flat Bed Truck. 2-wheel drive. Former Lockheed Marti, FLIGHT LINE, Emergency Response Vehicle. Or you can do what I have done and drive it as is and get lots of “thumbs up” from other Square Body lovers.

Extremely low, documented, mileage 61,929. Desirable 6.2 Liter diesel, fully mechanical engine, full service including 2 new batteries. Runs great! I bought this truck from a neighbor in 2018, who was an employee at Lockheed Martin in Marietta. He had purchased it at a Company Surplus Auction. Originally the truck had an Ambulance body, which he swapped out for a very early production C+M Flat Bed Truck Body. Because the truck was a Crash Truck on base it was not driven far.The GM 6.2 Diesel Engine has gained in popularity as it was the last truly mechanical, non-electronic engine. No, it is not fast, but has huge torque and adequate power. You get “thumbs up” anywhere you go. This truck was geared LOW.Top speed is 60 mph, I don’t like to drive over 55 mph. There are several solutions to the issue, but most people are going to swap out to a newer engine/transmission, so it is a moot point.

This truck has VERY LITTLE RUST. All of the usual trouble spots are good. Back of cab, bottom of doors, sill plates are just surface rust. The only rust thru I could find was under the drivers left foot area, which is not hard to correctly repair.

As you know these trucks are RED HOT now. Hagerty Valuation says “Thoroughly redesigned from stem to stern, the all-new third generation C/K trucks for 1973 proved to be the longest-lived series in Chevrolet’s history and the three-box styling has proved quite popular since. Aside from wheels and hubcaps, there really wasn’t much that was round anywhere in the design other than the body sides that featured a sculpted character line with a central plateau panel as well as curved side glass, a first on a GM truck. This platform also featured GM’s first in-house built crew cab. 1982 saw a vastly improved6.2-liter diesel. This engine was a contributing factor for GM to bid on a Department of Defense contract for the Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV), yielding a contract to build the military specification M-1008 and M-1028 pickups, M1010 ambulance, M1030 cab& chassis, plus M-2009 Command Vehicle (Blazer) from 1983-86. The 1987model year - the final year of production - saw the series designators changed. The rear-wheel drive C-series became the R-series, then the four-wheel drive K-series were renamed the V-series. This was done to allow for concurrent production of its replacement early in 1987 of the all-new C and K models. 1988 was the introduction of the fourth generation C/K, which would itself continue until 2002.”
