1956 GMC 450 Cabover COE/like 3100
NO RESERVE!
Guaranteed to catch eyes and turn heads!
This is a truck we pulled out of a barn here in central Kansas. It was fixed up by the previous owner who had parked it in the barn several years ago, and recently passed away. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase it and bring it back to life.
Originally this was a basic workhorse on the farm, hauling grain to the elevator, feed back to the farm, and probably whatever else would fit in the bed. As the previous owner got closer to retirement age, he decided he wanted to fix up his favorite old truck for parades, taking grandkids for rides, etc.. He also used to have a neighbor that had a maroon/purple 1957 Cadillac, the color was called Castile Maroon Iridescent. He always loved that car, so he decided to paint his truck that color! I don't know how close he got to the correct color, but that was the intention - "that '57 Caddy was the fanciest car in town". The paint job on the truck is amateur at best, but shines and shows nice for what it is. This was a very solid truck that he started with, and there is no rust or bondo anywhere that I can see other than one quarter size spot on left cab corner. Very solid. This truck obviously comes with a PTO driven hydraulic winch that works great.
Another great feature of this truck is the engine. It has a great running 302 GMC inline 6 cylinder. There is a fair bit of history and folklore about these engines. Prior to the Chevy small block being readily available, the flathead Fords ruled the racing scene - some of the Chevy guys started building 302's and putting them in their cars. They said all the Fords would see was the taillights of whatever the 302 was in - and the 302 Equipped cars became known as flathead killers. There were also a few Bonneville salt flat cars that achieved very impressive speeds with the 302 jimmy. Obviously no-one is taking this truck racing, but it is a fun bit of history.
The engine runs great, carries 50lbs of oil pressure, doesn't smoke, etc.. The vacuum line for the power brakes was leaking, so I plugged it. It also needs exhaust manifold gaskets, as they are leaking. The truck shifts through all the gears just fine, but the brakes need some work. I had them working, then the right rear wheel cylinder started leaking, so it will need at least that. Basically, the truck needs a few weekends of tinkering to make it a reliable driver.
Here is a link to a short video of it running and operating (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtAPiqJlqjU) or go to YouTube and search - Cort's 1956 GMC 450. Please call or text Cort at 620-786-5172 with any questions, I love to talk about old trucks. Also check my feedback from lots of old trucks, no disappointments. Truck does come with a vin matching Kansas title - I am a Kansas dealer which means I am bonded and insured. I am fine with truck setting here until you can arrange transport/pick-up - as long as paid for - Thank you and Good Luck!
