CAR HISTORY AND PRODUCTION HISTORY:
THE CAR STARTED ITS LIFE IN THE KANSAS CITY, MO. PLANT IN LATE 1958, SEPTEMBER, THE 1ST MONTH FOR CHANGE-OVER FOR THE '59 PRODUCTION RUN. THIS 59' HAS THE BODY NUMBER # 120 (PLEASE SEE TRIM TAG PHOTO) AND THE TOTAL PRODUCTION PASSENGER CAR RUN LINE NUMBER OF: # 712 OUT OF ALL THE HUNDRED THOUSAND PLUS '59 CHEVROLET PRODUCTION PASSENGER CARS PRODUCED THERE AT THE KC PLANT.
THE CAR WAS THEN SHIPPED DENVER, COLORADO HUB, THEN UP TO A SMALL DEALERSHIP IN LEADVILLE, COLORADO. THIS IS WHERE THE ORIGINAL OWNER PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN LATE 1958. HE PURCHASED THIS '59 IMPALA AT "MYRON STAPLETON"CHEVROLET OF LEADVILLE, COLORADO IN LATE 1958. THE DEALERSHIP NO LONGER EXISTS, PLEASE SEE THE IMPORTANT AND INTERESTING WHOLE STORY BELOW!
THE CARS LAST OFFICIAL INSPECTION TAG IS DOCUMENTED AT 11-10-1980 AND THE CAR CLOCKED IN WITH 43,984 MILES. TODAY THE CAR HAS 44,109 MILES, THAT IS 215 MILES IN THE LAST 42 YEARS! AFTER HE RETIRED, HE NEVER DROVE MUCH AFTER THIS.
ORIGINAL FACTORY OPTIONS THE CAR:
MAIN AREAS ON THE CAR: IN APPEARANCE INSPECTION:
EXTERIOR PAINT:
INCREDIBLE LACQUER ORIGINAL EXTERIOR TWO TONE PAINT, ROMAN RED 923 AND SNOWCREST WHITE 936 SHOWING GREAT SHINE FOR AGE AND SHOWING NORMAL WEAR FOR A 44,000 MILE CAR OF THIS AGE. HAS SCRATCHES, DINGS, CHIPS, AND ROAD RASH, WHICH ARE THE NORM, ALONG WITH SOME PATINA, COLOR BLOTCHES, ETC, ALL SHOWING ORIGINAL CHARACTER FOR THE ORIGINALITY OF THE CAR AS UNTOUCHED. (A PROFESSIONAL ORIGINAL LACQUER PAINTER COULD EASILY TOUCH THIS CAR UP AND MAKE IT ALMOST PERFECT AGAIN, BUT WE CHOSE TO LEAVE IT "AS IS'' ALL ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED 1959 IMPALA.
INTERIOR:
THE MOST AMAZING OVERALL THING ON THIS CAR, THE ALL ORIGINAL FACTORY INTERIOR, SEATS, DOOR PANELS, SIDE KICK PANELS, ENTRY WINDLACE, HEADLINER, VISORS, CARPET, REAR SHELF MAT, ALL SHOWING ALMOST NO WEAR AT ALL, CARPET- SHOWING THE MOST WEAR AND SOME SUN DIS-COLORATION IN SPOTS. NO REPAIRS, AND OR STITCHES SEEN OR KNOWN. THE MATERIALS ARE STRONG AND SHOW NO SIGNS OF ROT, OR BRITTLENESS. ALSO THE TRUNK AREA, RARE ORIGINAL FIRST RUN FIBER PRESSED FLOOR MATTING IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. THIS IS NOT RUBBER MAT, AS THE NEW REPOPS ARE TODAY AND THE VINYL TWEED LOOKING SECOND RUN, THAT ALSO CAUSED MOISTURE DAMAGE. THE REAL DEAL.
MECHANICS:
ALL THE DRIVETRAIN IS ORIGINAL AND OPERATES AS IT SHOULD. STARTS WITH A PUMP ON THE PEDAL AND FIRES UP QUICK. IDLES VERY NICE AND THE NEW EXHAUST HAS A NICE SOUND. CAR HAS A LOT OF 348 V8 POWER, MOTOR IS SOLID AND STRONG. TRANSMISSION IS THE TURBOGLIDE AND SHOWS SOME LEAKING AND COULD NEED NEW GASKET SEAL SOON, JUST DUE TO AGE AND SITTING. TURBOGLIDES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR HESITATING AND SLIPPING AFTER SITTING, BUT THE MORE WE DRIVE IT, THE MORE THE TRANS IS PERFORMING BETTER AS IT SHOULD. NO ODD NOISES FROM REAR END AND OR INTERNAL MOTOR. NEW SHOCKS AND NEW DUAL EXHAUST, BATTERY.
ELECTRICAL:
ALL FUNCTION WITH EASE, LIGHTS INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR. HIGH BEAMS, BLINKERS ALL OPERATE AS THEY SHOULD. RADIO, HEATER, FAN, CABLES FOR DEFROST & HEAT AND ALL VENTS ARE ALL SMOOTH AS NEW. GLOVE BOX LOOKS LIKE NEW.
OPERATIONAL OTHERS:
HOOD RELEASE, DOORS, DOOR LOCKS, KEYED ENTRY, (ORIGINAL KEYS WITH CODES)GLOVE BOX, TRUNK, WINDOWS, ALL OPERATE NICE AND NO GLITCHES. FITTING VERY NICE ON ALL WINDOWS
FRONT FENDER MIRRORS WERE INSTALLED BY OWNER AND THE CHEVROLET DRIVERS SIDE DOOR MIRROR WAS NOT HIS FIRST DEALER INSTALLED CHOICE, SO HE MOUNTED THE OTHERS ON THE FRONT FENDERS, EASIER TO SEE OUT THE FRONT WINDOW.
CONCLUSION SUMMARY:
THIS 1959 CHEVROLET IMPALA IS THE VERY LAST OF A RARE UNTOUCHED ORIGINAL THAT HAS NEVER BEEN RESTORED.
THIS IS TRULY A FIND OF FINDS FOR THE "PUREST OF COLLECTORS" AND THE MUSEUM COLLECTORS SHOWING "THE EXACT WAY IT WAS MADE'' TYPE CLASS. IF SHOWN IN THE "ORIGINAL UNRESTORED CLASS'' YOUR A WINNER IN EVERY SHOW, HANDS DOWN!
