I am the 3rd owner and have had it since 1988! The car was built in April 1972, and I have the original Protect-O-Plate, build sheet, and dealer information from Camp Chevrolet here in Atlanta, GA. As far as I know, it has spent its entire life here in the greater Atlanta area.
It wears the original paint and engine, with minor updates over the years as I drove it in high school, college and beyond. After sitting for almost 20 years, I performed a mild restoration in 2016-2017 aimed to get it back on the road and preserve it for future restoration. I added new HEI, Edelbrock Carb, etc. and runs great for such an old mill.
I believe it is a very solid car, as I addressed mild rust issues, added disc brakes, and rebuilt most of the suspension to make it road worthy. It really needs a good home, with an owner who is willing to give it the next level of restoration. The car is titled and registered in Georgia and is driven locally on occasion.
Seller’s NotesA deposit of $ 500 is due within 48 hours.I prefer local pickup, but I will help with loading and coordinating with the shipper that the buyer selects. The buyer will cover all associated costs. I also have some recent videos of the car in action if you contact me.
Other Details·The original color is the unique gray/green that faded into more of a green. As you can see, it had a black vinyl top that I removed about 20 years ago and painted the roof to seal it. It has the normal rust at the base of rear window, but it is sealed and can be easily repaired during paint prep. The rest of the roof is good with only some minor surface rust.
·All the body panels are original. I would recommend new fenders and a hood as probably the easiest route during restoration. The rear quarters are good, but you may find some small rust during painting that will need repair.
·I sandblasted, painted, and installed new tires in 2017.
·The transmission is original but was rebuilt in 1988/89. It still shifts like adream.
·The speedometer was repaired at 129,924 as the odometer failed. A reputable shop replaced the odometer, and it now reads 113,602 miles and works great.
·There was very little rust on the interior, mostly on the driver’s floorboard. I pulled the carpet to keep moisture out, wire wheeled it, removed the rust, and sealed it with POR15. Then I installed a heat and sound barrier. No sheet metal replacement of floor pans is/was required!
·I have included a pretty good picture of the truck floor before and after cleaning and the same treatment as the floor boards. There was normal rust but nothing that required sheet metal replacement. The only issue to mention is the normal rust that is behind the bumper. I chose to do a repair with fiberglass to keep water out of the trunk, that is something that could use anew sheet metal repair if desired.
·I replaced all the front suspension and added an ’85 Monte Carlo steering box…. what a dream it is now to drive! I added a disc brake conversion made for 14”wheels which really makes it much safer to drive. If you upsize the wheels, you will probably want to add a new disc set that is larger.
·It has A/C but it hasn’t worked in years. I removed the interior system, cleaned it upand replaced the heater core and cleaned all the ducts. So now the heat works!
·Interior-wise the front and back seats are inand front seat belts, as well as the door panels. The headliner, package tray, etc. is out, asthe front and rear windows will need to be pulled during restoration, so I justleft anything out that could collect moisture. All parts will be included of course.
·As you will see it runs and drives great for short hops. No, I wouldn’t drive it to Daytona or drag it. I feel I have done a good job of preserving it, keeping it running and ready for a new home where it can be restored properly and loved for another 50 years! However, shipping the car to its new home or trailering is probably the best idea and will be the responsibility of the buyer.
Additionally, I have some other goodies that can be separately purchased if you are interested.
·12-Bolt rear end, suspension arms and sway bar from a 71 Chevelle that I parted out
·I have a pair of 1971 SS spindles for the same 71 SS car that are used for disc brakes.
·I also have a 1973 454 from a Caprice that we bought straight from the wrecked car in 1988 or so with 80K. I have the block, heads, crank, rods, and pistons I believe.
·And finally, I have a TH350 from another Chevelle.
