This LM1 Camaro is a true 'Sleeper' having better performance and factory option upgrades than offered on the later standard L48 2-bbl 350 Camaro's. LM1s were made for only four months, from Sept-Dec of 1968, resulting in only 4% of the production for 1969 Camaros. This LM1 model actually preceded the well known 'X code' options offered on SS models to follow. There is no way to know how many people ordered the LM1 to get a sleeper of a performace car, and how many people never realized that their LM1 car had drivetrain upgrades. They were considered in the day as a sleeper SS. Forward to 2023 and LM1's are considered very collectible, particularly by the people who are familiar with what they are.
This Camaro is numbers matching and retains its original equipment as built in the last week of September 1968 in GM's Norwood, Ohio plant as an LM1 RPO optioned 350cui V8 engined car and matched with a M38 THM350 3-spd automatic transmission driven through a 12-bolt rear end, and factory multi-leaf rear springs. The car was repainted once in the factory color combination of Glacier Blue and a rare optioned painted Dover White roof, and featured Medium Blue deluxe vinyl trim.
This beautiful and rare optioned car started life in Los Angeles, California before moving to New Mexico. Given its residency, this is a rust free car with the floors, quarters & trunk all appearing to be the original born-with metal and verified with factory date stamps on both 1/4 panels, trunk lid, and hood. As can be seen, this vehicle maintains its original-rust free floors. While New Mexico will save a car from rust it isn't as nice to paint. The car was repainted in the factory colors, Glacier Blue on the body and Dover White on top. Yes, this is a factory painted roof car which in itself is quite rare. Some chrome & bright trim was replaced but the bulk of the car remains original. The interior is in excellent condition.
This is a fun Camaro and presents as an extremely nice survivor, which in a way it is. The car is reported to have only 59,227 original miles and it looks great in this rare livery, and runs & drives beautifully. This is a very clean and solid car, still with its original rust free body panels and floors. The car, apart from the LM1 options mentioned, also features power steering, power assisted brakes, air conditioning and factory front bucket seats.
If you are looking for a very Rare, Numbers Matching and low mileage Camaro that presents in excellent condition, then you can't go past this offering!!
