1966 Chevrolet Corvette L72 427 Additional Info:
Collectors get excited about a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette L72 because this was the debut year of the storied 427, and this one has the biggest power version Chevy offered. So when there's a highly documented coupe with its numbers-matching big block and four-speed, it proves a truly awesome power machine for not only its shining paint, but also its pedigree, too.
This is for the ones who like to show exceptional cars. The factory-correct Milano Maroon was given an investment in the kind of quality respray that will get you invited onto concourse lawns. Of course, what will get you there is this car's history, too. This coupe spent its first three decades with its first owner, and he put on the majority of the mileage. By the time it had its second owner in 1995, the Corvette community had already caught up to how special it is. That's why there have been five owners total, but only three registered it for use. It has spent most of its life as a California car, and it retains its original black plates. It's a correct and striking total package with an overall fit and finish that seems to want to keep this one close to NCRS judging standards. So the shinning paint and shining chrome bumpers are there just to draw people in so you can tell them this car's story. Plus, we all like a Sting Ray with the right performance minded-features like the knock off wheel hubs, growling side pipes, and the stinger hood that lets us all know there is serious power beneath it.
The maroon paint is like red but deeper, and so a black interior just looks even better against it. It's also attractive because this one is extremely clean and remains quite correct. Taut vinyl on the bucket seats, plush carpeting, and a smooth dual cowl dash all contribute to this car's quality feel. There are the right classic features, like a factory AM/FM radio that's there for display and a working clock. Plus, this is a true driver's machine with the wood-rimmed steering wheel, bright shifter, and a dash full of the right gauges dominated by the large speedo and 6500 RPM tach.
There's definitely something magical about a 427 in a Corvette. So you know it's truly special having the original numbers-matching L72 motor still living under the hood and looking fantastic. It was the most powerful V8 available that year, and it's dressed properly with Chevy Orange on the block and valve covers. Plus, there's a nice bit of flash with the correct ignition shield and chrome air cleaner with 427 decals. And as you look at the details, this engine bay is so correct and tidy from the GM hoses to the big Holley four-barrel carburetor on top. Part of the paperwork file comes with good maintenance receipts by the first owner, and it even show a nice investment in an engine overhaul in 2014. While this one has documented low mileage for its age, you also know this is a car you have to experience on the open road. The numbers-matching close-ratio Muncie M21 four-speed allows you to dial in the performance and roar of the sidepipes on a moment's notice, and it feeds a 4.11 Positraction rear for powerful and confident take-offs. This was born with the desirable F41 sports suspension, and so the fully-independent setup just loves to hug the road better than you'd expect in a 1960s machine. And don't forget you also have the superior stopping power of four-wheel disc brakes.
The paperwork on this is absolutely terrific, and it includes the original bill of sale, dealer invoice, warranty card, owner's manual packet, and maintenance records. There are even cool extras like a parking ticket from 1968. It all proves this was a coupe that was built with the right features, and people have made sure it has carefully been kept that way. So don't miss out, call today!
