I don’t know if there is a more beautiful car than a mid-year Corvette (1963-1967). They have all the right curves and creases, especially in coupe form; it’s one of the few cars where the convertible version can sell at a discount. This 1964 model captures all those aesthetics and presents them in terrific fashion. Combining features like Daytona Blue paint, aluminum wheels, and a dark blue interior with a solid lifter 327ci engine and 4-speed transmission, it is a great example of what makes these Corvettes so attractive.
This car is an original Daytona Blue coupe, which was only available in 1963-1964. It has a St. Louis body with a build date of D7 (December 7, 1963). It has one repaint and looks fantastic, especially with the polished aluminum wheels and new Kumho Ecsta 225/50ZR17 tires. The brightwork and emblems look outstanding against the dark body color too. Underneath, the frame is solid and the fiberglass does not have any damage.
This car was built with the optional 327ci 365hp engine (L76). This setup makes for a fun driving experience, with lots of revs and a very nice sound. The block is not original but is the correct 3782870 casting dated March 2, 1964. The cylinder heads are the desirable double-hump 3782461 pieces. L76 features include a solid lifter camshaft, aluminum Winters intake manifold, Holley carburetor, 8” harmonic balancer, and a special idler pulley. This one has also been upgraded with a Mallory solid state ignition.
In addition to the high rpm engine, the 4-speed Muncie transmission adds to the enjoyment while the 3.36 rear end performs well on the highway. Contributing to ride quality is a rebuilt front suspension with new ball joints, control arm pivots, and tie rod ends. Note this car has manual steering, as was the case with all the solid lifter engines. The brakes have also been redone with a new master cylinder and new wheel cylinders.
The dark blue interior is a great place from which to experience this Corvette. The bucket seats are quite comfortable, and the teak steering wheel always looks great on a C2. The carpet and door panels are in good condition and the dash pads have been replaced. The horn, heater, defroster, and parking brake are all functional. So are all the gauges including the L76 high rpm tachometer. All lighting and the headlight motors work properly too. The original sound system has been changed to a Pioneer head unit with an aftermarket sound bar in back. This is a nice package that provides improved sound without cutting anything up.
This is a quality mid-year Corvette that can do it all. It is an excellent blend of condition and drivability. You can take it to shows and do quite well, or just run down to the drive-in on a nice summer night. Whatever you like best, this Corvette will have you enjoying it in style.
