1918 Chevy 490 Pick Up Presented By: GARRETT CLASSICSclassic and collector car sales and consignment1865 McGee Lane, Ste FLewisville, TX 75077Call Maris at 214-616 2317 or Dave at 214-213-7072 Chevrolet was the first manufacturer to design a vehicle which was to become the first pick up truck even before Henry Ford produced his first in 1925. Be sure to watch the video below of this amazing 102 year old Chevy truck. Click here to enjoy the video of this 1918 Chevy pick up truck. Chevy sold its first truck in 1918. It was adapted from a flatbed mule that workers used in the factory to haul parts around (as seen below) . The first Chevy trucks were super primitive – just a frame and a basic seat. Buyers had to build the cab and bed they wanted, so anything you find from the 1920s is going to be custom-built and generally it’s either already been restored or it’s a pile of rusty parts. Below is an example of one of the first Chevy truck, similar to the one we have. The transmission was a basic 3 speed on the floor with no synchros. We don't have any history on the truck, but we think it is somewhat very original. In 1918 Chevy built these truck with no beds. You had the option to put what you wanted on the chassis. We actually found instructions on how to build this wood slip on body on the internet. The old 4 cylinder engine runs great. There were no valve covers on these inline engines at the time. THese were pretty basic vehicles. You can see by the tires why we did not do a long video of the old girl. They are quite old and on their original wooden spoke wheels. This will make a great museum piece or a great addition to a classic pre-war collection. Thank you for viewing our ad. Give us a call at 214-616-2317 with any questions.
