This truck is one of those trucks built for the ride. Once you get into it, you won’t want to get out of it. It features all the necessities in driver comfort. It combines classic styling, comfort and drivability. I can’t say enough about this truck and just how nice it is to drive, from the great ride, the great looks and comfort in the cabin, this IS the ultimate in touring Hot Rod experience.
The story behind this truck is just as cool as the truck itself. This truck is a lifelong southern California truck. It spent its entire life in San Diego California before being shipped out here 3-4 years ago for the build/restoration you see here today. The truck was located online by a friend of mine, who saw an ad placed by the owner, who had it stored in his garage for 40 years. It was barely recognizable and covered in Christmas decorations. The body on this truck is EVERYTHING you would expect from the quintessential California truck. No rust… ever. You will be hard pressed to ever find an original bodied truck in the shape this truck was when this build was started. Take a look at the pictures and read the description and get ready to bid, this truck won’t last long.
BODY
As you can see in the pictures this truck is a real stunner. The combination of the Satin Mercedes Silver paint and the Red ultra-leather really pops. The body on this truck is everything you would expect from a southern California truck. It retains ALL of its original sheet metal. All of it. Every panel on this truck is what it came with from the factory. Not only that, there has never been a patch installed anywhere. Not in the floor, the fenders, toe boards cab corners or anywhere else on this truck. If you take time to look at the additional pictures in the link I have at the beginning of this ad, you will see I took pictures of all the areas that usually rust and would have been repaired. Look at the fit of all the panels. Look at the gaps. They look and fit as good as any truck out there. I have owned a couple of these trucks before and NONE of them have had the lines this truck has. This truck was obviously not used as a “farm truck” like the cool license plate says. It obviously lived a very easy life.
All of the bright work looks outstanding and the bed floor complete with many coats of urethane looks incredible. The tail gate has been modified with hidden latches and cleans up the back of the bed. The roll pan with the corvette tail lights gives it a nice clean look. This is one cool ole truck. Appropriately named “Hi Ho Silver”.
INTERIOR
Since this is where you spend the majority of your time, this truck was built with enough creature comforts for you to feel comfortable when you are out cruising but the real character and coolness of the ’53 still shines through. The interior is really a work of art. The interior is done in Red Ultra Leather and is it so soft and supple you would think you were in a new Cadillac. The front seat is from an 88-95 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck and really is a huge upgrade over the stock bench seat. It folds up to give you some space behind the seat and it is extremely comfortable and it makes you want to settle in for the long haul. All new wiring was done at the time of the build so no worries about old outdated wiring. A new heat and air system has been installed to allow you to still enjoy the cruise on a hot day. A nice array of vintage gauges monitors all of your vitals when you hit the streets. A tilt wheel helps you get in and out with ease. You have power windows, a new electric wiper system, a CD player hidden under the seat and an armrest so you can get your lean on when you are out on the open road.
DRIVETRAIN
The drivetrain is exactly what you would want in a touring truck. Enough power to get you around in traffic, coupled with reliability, efficiency and ease of maintenance. The heart of this stunner is a GM performance 350/290 HP crate engine, it sounds great with the flowmaster exhaust system but not too loud. A TH350 Trans and 3.08 rear gear makes highway cruising a real pleasure. The original frame and suspension has been updated with a Mustang II Rack and pinion front suspension, complete with power disk brakes and QA1 coil overs. It rides great and the stance is spot on. You won’t have to worry about running the A/C on a hot day and overheating because you have a new aluminum radiator with a thermostat controlled electric fan. The engine and trans runs flawlessly and was installed when the truck was built and has a little over 10k miles on it. The truck rides on 17 and 18 inch Rocket brand wheels. The center of the wheels where painted with the Mercedes Silver paint and clear coated and really pop and sparkle when the sun hits them.
