Chevrolet's marketing jargon for the Chevelle SS396 was simple: 'The SS396 will bring on a severe compulsion to go driving.' The '66 model was a total upgrade to the first generation Chevelle and it was a stunner. Styling was entirely new from the previous years, providing a much longer, leaner appearance. This 1966 Chevelle Malibu was not an original '138' code SS396, but is a freshly restored (2019-20) tribute car, a virtual match to that performance icon. A beautiful new 2-stage finish was applied (appears to be Chevrolet Monza Red) and SS396 badging. The black vinyl interior was completely restored and is equipped with Vintage Air, AM/FM radio, tinted windows and manual convertible top. The original powerplant has been upgraded to a built 468ci big-block fitted with Edelbrock intake/carb, serpentine belt system and tube headers. This Rat is backed by 700R4/OD automatic and a 12-bolt differential w/street gearing. It sounds very strong through a stainless dual exhaust system w/crossover pipe. Period correct American Racing wheels mount stout 15" BFGoodrich Radial T/As. The chassis is fitted with power steering, power assisted 4-wheel disc brakes, front sway bar and new fuel tank.
