1965 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible
The first Corvair concept vehicle debuted at the 1954 General Motors Autorama, six years prior to its official 1960 model year release. Corvair is the 1st and only mass-produced American vehicle offering an air-cooled rear engine design, unibody construction, factory turbocharging, and 4-wheel independent suspension.
For consignment this engineering marvel was for 1965 called by Car and Driver "...undoubtedly the sexiest-looking American car of the new crop and possibly one of the most handsome cars in the world." Almost 2 million Corvairs were made during their 1960-69 run. This consignment has decent paint, some recent bodywork with spray primer, and newer white canvas convertible top with a clear plastic window on the back. The interior is original and will need a good cleaning.
Exterior
The Burgundy paint in fair condition has lost some of its shine and has some dings and chips throughout. Some rust repairs have been performed and are now sprayed with red primer. A nice white top has recently been installed and works perfectly. Chrome trim and brite work suffers just a bit from some slight denting, although remains mostly shiny. All badging is all there. 14-inch wheels and black wall rubber is on all 4 corners and capped with standard Corvair hubcaps.
Interior
Black vinyl buckets in front and a rear bench sporting the same pattern as the front buckets, make up the passenger seating. Seats are dusty and show some wear, but there are no rips or tears. The original unrestored dash is up front and shows some fading and chipping of the dash paint with some stickers affixed. The factory radio is still installed into a black center panel, along with the ashtray and lighter. Noted on the rear driver's side panel the actual panel and armrest and crank are missing.
Drivetrain
To the back of the car we go and see a 164ci 6-cylinder engine with dual 1-barrel carburetors attached. A 2-speed Powerglide automatic is the transmission.
Undercarriage
Areas of surface rust, some heavy on the suspension parts are seen. A repaired area is noted on both sides around the door panel on the frame. Some rust is also noted on the passenger's rocker. All other panels remain structurally strong. Drum brakes are all around.
Drive-Ability
This car does crank but we could not get it to run.
Offered a project 1965 Corvair, that is all there it just needs some TLC and you will have a classic that you can turn into your own.
