For sale is a 1977 Chevy K30 crew cab 4x4. I found this truck on a farm in dry NE Oregon, where it hadn’t been registered since 2008 and was not running. I bought the truck to work on with my son, and we’ve gone through the basics to get it running. Up until the lockdown I was driving it daily, but I haven’t been getting out as much lately.
We’ve replaced the fuel pump,battery, battery cables, changed the engine oil and filter, and also replaced the transmission fluid and filter. The seat covers are new as well.
The truck has a 400 V8 and the TH400 automatic transmission. It has a full time transfer case with aftermarket manual hubs. The intake and carburetor are Edelbrock, installed long before I bought it. The engine starts right up even when it’s cold and runs well, but you should plan on doing a good tuneup.
All of the exterior lights except for the reverse lights work. All of the gauges also work, but the gauge lights do not. The odometer shows about 4k miles, I’m guessing that’s 104k.
Recently the “brake” warning light came on, so I’m guessing one of the wheel cylinders is probably leaking.I have not found an obvious leak, though. The brake pedal feel is good and the brakes work well. I have not inspected the brakes, so they should be gone through soon. If I can find some time, I’ll take a look myself.
Because this was a farm truck, mud was left packed in the wheel wells which caused some rust as pictured on the front fenders. There is also a small amount of rust through on the passenger side front floor. The rest of the floor, cab corners and doors are solid. The mufflers have some holes but I don’t mind the way it sounds. I’ve tried to show any and all rust in the pics. It also has typical dents and dings for a 40+ year old pickup.
It has a neat old A/C system that I haven’t seen on these trucks before, maybe a dealer installed option? At any rate, it doesn’t work anymore. You can see the controls above the factory heater controls.
The truck will need tires soon.They all hold air fine, but they are pretty old.
I’ve checked and double checked the VIN using online resources, and it’s definitely a K30. However, the axles have me confused. The rear is not a full-floater, and the front doesn’t look like a Dana 60 to me. I know that in the 70’s, GM built some K20 crew cabs, but the VIN number says this is a one ton. The glove box option sheet and VIN plate match. If the axles were replaced, it was a long time ago. It has the rear shocks inside the frame rail like a K30.
These single rear-wheel 4x4 crewcabs are hard to find, and the only resource who lists a value for trucks so old is NADA. They show a “low” retail value of $9,275. I don’t know about that,and this truck is not priced that high.
