Here is a car that was purchased from a private collector. Originally from AL where the car was purchased from The American Muscle Car Mania Car Museum in Summerdale, AL along with several other rare examples.
This L-89 1968 Camaro RS/SS has 80% original Lemans Blue paint with only 16,953 miles indicated as actual. Straight original body panels that are extremely solid. The motor was replaced with a CE Warranty Counter Exchange Block. Correct dated aluminum heads, Winters aluminum intake, Holley carb, factory original paint on the inner fenders, firewall, exhaust manifolds, vacuum point distributor, 11.00 to 1 compression, solid lifter, original Harrison radiator, clutch fan big block shroud. Power steering, PFDB, correct style GM belts, hoses and clamps. Chalk marks and paint marks on the firewall, original air cleaner element. All the correct GM deep groove pulleys, correct dated alternator and original GM chrome valve covers. The car looks correct and sounds terrific.
The exterior body has the original SS hood pins added back in the day. Original hockey stripe, hideaway headlights are in good working condition and are considered factory original components. Beautiful original paint, original chrome bumpers, glass including the windshield, bright work, stainless emblems, grille, headlight surrounds, side marker light and rear tail light bezels are original and rear back up lights work fine. 14” Rally wheels with redline tires, M21 close ratio transmission, and 12 bolt 3.55 Posi.
Paint work on right rear quarter and lower left hand quarter panel only where the paint was measured with a digital paint meter, reading 4.5 to 5.5 milli thousand. No rust or damage on this rare find. Beautiful original interior, light stain on carpet, perfect original deluxe door panels, seat covers, headliner and dash pad. Both interior kick panels are discolored. AM radio, factory dashboard and instrument cluster is original. Everything works, except the original radio. Original Light group, glove box lamp, factory seat belts, brilliant doorjambs with perfect factory weather strip are not dried or cracked. Rock solid door bottoms, original sill plates and exceptionally nice glass. Factory SS steering wheel with no cracks. Hurst competition 4-speed shifter, slide plate in the original console. Rocker molding, roof drip rail moldings, wheel-opening moldings are original GM trim and considered excellent. Spotless original trunk with original spatter paint. Full size Rally wheel mounted on a redline tire. Original jack and trunk mat. Totally original under carriage, no signs of any rust or repair. Original floor pans, front-end components, suspension correct style dual exhaust with Transverse single mufflers. Original spring tags, and rear multi-leaf springs. Light dealer under coating, however the car is super solid on the underside.
Basically, an unrestored example. Total production L-89 1968 Camaros were a mere 211 units. Unfortunately, there is no documentation to explain true miles, as those records have not been found.
If you are looking for an unrestored, rust free 68 Camaro RS/SS you will want to check this one out. Investment grade, extremely original car that drives and performs terrific.
