1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS
If you're confused as to why people refer to Chevelles and Malibus as the same car, it's because Malibu was a trim level of the Chevelle from 1964 to 1977. The Malibu wasn't a separate model until 1978. No Chevelles originally had a woodgrain console. But If you see one with a woodgrain console now, it's likely from a Monte Carlo. There was a version of the Chevelle only available in Canada that had a slightly different grille and trim. It was called the Beaumont.
For consignment a really excellent adventure into a restoration that was full off and full on quality finished. A simply stunner of an interior, a straight and true exterior with tasteful paint, and a real runner under that hood in the form of a 396ci V8 beauty.
Exterior
Near perfect Cortez Silver drapes this car's steel panels which mind their gaps very nicely. Black painted stripes race from front to back and are only broken up by the black vinyl top, which is also pristine. Dual headlights along with a dual stacked chrome rimmed top off a grille with an SS badge emblazoned in chrome in the center. A lower mirror like bumper, and the cowl induction hood adds to this 1970 masterpiece. A shout out to the rear bumper with the inset taillights within an inset bumper on the rear of the car, all shiny and new as well. 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels are all around and wrapped by raised white lettered Goodrich Radial T/A's on all 4 corners.
Interior
You'll be seeing red on this interior with just fabulous red door panels nearly showroom, wonderful red buckets up front and a rear bench, a red console with some aluminum panels within it, and a red original dash. A black textured faux leather panel covers some of the red on the dash and houses a rally gauge pack with the 3 deep circular gauges in the center of the wheel, and some other vitals surrounding. This car has the original AM/FM radio installed within the faux black leatherette, and the floors are flooded in red carpet. As for the headliner...you guessed it...more pristine red. Just really well done and preserved inside and a beautiful contrast to the gray exterior.
Drivetrain
A great looking, non-original but correct orange blocked 396ci V8 graces a very clean and restored engine bay. Chromed valve covers, heads, exhaust manifolds, and a chromed air cleaner cover add to the mechanical jewelry, and it just goes on and on. A single 4-barrel Edelbrock carb is atop, and a 4-speed numbers matching transmission is on back. A 12 bolt 3.73 posi rear is on the way back.
Undercarriage
Clean and rust free nearly as close to showroom as you can get, we have independent coil springs up front, and a 4 link with coil springs on the rear. Power disc brakes upfront, and power drums on the rear, and Turbo mufflers with exhaust cutouts added can be seen. Suspension looks like almost new, as does the floor pans, and frame.
Drive-Ability
As usual with these early 1970's Chevrolet muscle cars, our spec writer and myself clamor to drive these, so we flipped a coin and it landed on its side, so we both drove it! (One of the many bennies working at CAM). Anyway, she fired right up with a roar, and we were speeding our way to the test track. Here we found this car to be in ship shape mechanically, running smoothly, accelerating with no end, and cornering like a big lumbering muscle car from 1970. But it was a very enjoyable ride, and we are still seeing red from all that interior color.
Restoration is a wonderful thing especially when it is done to this level, and this one will not let you down. Deep Cortez Silver paint, Magnum 500 wheels, vinyl top, 396ci engine, and a red interior like the original, all the boxes are checked and the i's are dotted as well as t's crossed on this one, so come and get it, it will slide out of here very fast, just like it handled our test track.
