1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible Additional Info:
Wow! What a car!We are retired, moving soon, and can't take it with us. Must Sell.Same owner for 30+ years. Older (10 year) $50,000+, two year long full restoration. Driven less than 2000 miles since. Started with a super nice, all original, 348 3-duece 70,000 mile one-owner survivor high-option driver that had only some minor rust in the floor pans, which were replaced . Everything you can imagine was then replaced with NOS parts.
OPTIONS: Very rareFactory Air conditioning. Factory power steering. Factory power brakes. Factory 6-way electric seats. Factory electric windows including both wings. Factory cruise control. Factory auto headlight dimmer. Factory 348 V8 3-duece engine. And a lot of other goodies. *The valve covers are not original to the engine and I didn't keep the old ones.
Some of the options are not working or do not work correctly -and may not be hooked up. I suspect this happened when it was restored years ago and all new NOS wiring harnesses were installed. The dash mounted auto headlight dimmer doesn't seem to work properly, the factory dash mounted cruise control cables still need to be hooked up to the carbs. The 6-way seats work but may could use a bit of TLC as one function on one seat seems to work intermittently.
Electric windows. All the window motors and wiring harnesses were replaced with NOS parts. Every window, including both wings, can be operatedindependently or can be operated by the driver.
Glass: Every piece of glass and all the rubber trim was replaced with NOS parts.
Condition: Rust free 99%. Paint 98%. Interior 90%. Engine 90%. Undercarriage 90%. Carpet 75%. Fit and finish 90%. Chrome 90%. There are several things I'd touch up a little if I were trying to enter it in shows and there may be a few things I have overlooked or forgotten to mention, but not much. I have it in the shop right now having my mechanic look it over top to bottom and I have instructed him to repair or replace anything he finds. At the very least he will go through the carbs, clean the fuel tank (itsnearly new) and new fluids and filters.
Paint: The paint looks like new and is as flawless and shiny as you will see on anything shy of a really high-end show car. There is one smaller-than-a-dime size spot on the PS front fender that at first glance looks like a water spot but I couldn't get rid of it completely by hand polishing it.This is an incredible driver. It's not a show car but sure looks like one to the untrained eye.It is really stunning!
Rust: There is no rust, rust bubbles or traces of rust that I can detect, showing anywhere on the car. Even the rockers look perfect. Other than the floor pans, I don't recall ever seeing any trace of rust.
Convertible Top: Was replaced with a really good one a couple of years ago and has been garaged since. *One of the pics shows the top after it was just installed, but before the final adjustments were made so the gap above the DS front window has now been adjusted to fit properly.
Operation: Starts, runs, drives and handles great.
Many modern upgrades. At the time it was restored I had them upgrade certain things to make the car drive like a new model. All but a few of the original parts are included so if you wanted to return it to an all original car you could.
HVAC system was replaced with a modern one that blows far hotter/cooler and harder than the original. This was done without drilling any new holes. Now the car has heat, AC and defrosters that work like a modern car. If you wanted to someday convert it back to all original everything is there to do it. I had them put the new HVAC controls in the glove box and used the existing dash air vents to keep it looking original.
Steering was upgraded with a tight ratio steering gear box and many new front end components so it now steers like a modern car without having to turn the steering wheel nearly as far when making a turn.
Master cylinder was upgraded to a chrome dual system for safety.
Front brakes were upgraded to 10" Wilwood slotted and drilled rotors and TWO sets of DUAL piston calipers on each wheel! Now this car will stop on a dime!
Rear brakes are original factory drum brakes.
Radiator was replaced with a modern 4-core aluminum unit after the photos were taken.
Suspension: The shocks and several other things were replaced with beefier parts to make it ride and handle better.
Transmission: The original Powerglide was replaced with a new Turbo 400 auto transmission. *The little indicator selector piece of clear plastic on the steering column still reflects the original 2-speed and you may want to change that out.
Wheels: After upgrading the front brakes, the original wheels would not clear the new calipers so I replaced them with five new Oasis 22" wheels. They looked a bit like the old Cragar wheels from the 60s, I thought. To get the old 14" wheels back on one would have to revert back to the old drum style brakes I'm afraid. There may be many other wheels that would fit. I really don't know. Right now the car sits only 1" taller than it did when new.
Payment: Please do not bid unless you agree with my terms. A 10% Good-Faith is deposit due within 24 hours of auction closing by Paypal and the balance paid in full by bank wire transferwithin 10 days and well before the car leaves my place.
Shipping: I will be happy to shop around and locate a transport company but you might find a better deal on your own. I wouldn't be afraid to drive this car cross country tomorrow. At the Buy It Now price I'll have it delivered to your door at my expense, anywhere in the lower 48 states.
Make me a fair offer. I must sell this car. Clear Kansas title in hand. 316-393-3874
