Low mileage, long-term ownership, paperwork, high originality, and the last of a long and proud line of big-blockV-8 engines recommend this 1974 Chevrolet Corvette convertible as an excellentcollectible. It has been driven a mere 53,000 miles by three owners since itwas sold new. Chromed rear bumpers were officially excised for the 1974Corvette, replaced by a two-piece molded urethane end cap that cleverly coveredthe new mandated high-impact bumper within. The Corvette’s new silhouette wouldremain basically unchanged for the next decade, but the big-block would be goneafter 1974, the victim of rising gas and insurance rates. Even so, 3,494customers purchased big-block Corvettes in 1974, showing they were stillpopular with enthusiasts. Mostly unrestored with one repaint in the original CorvetteMedium Blue, this 1974 Corvette convertible is a very clean example thatretains its original Numbers matching LS4454/270 HP V-8—complete with Rochester 4-barrel carburetor and dualexhaust—backed by the original Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. SoftRay-tinted glass, power steering and disc brakes, push-button AM/FM radio and BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires on Rally wheels. As befits such a wonderful find.
Recently the Stingray has undergonebrake, suspension, rear spring, rear axle, top, carpet, exhaust and starter upgrades which makes itdependable and fun to drive – with no known drivability issues. The top is brand new and replaced this summer only because the rear window was previously cloudy. The paint is approximately 15 years old and is shiny and glassy as would be expected.
This corvette is a rare find with the three options that were unusual, the big block, convertible AND the manual transmission. It is a great daily driver and could be driven anywhere. It's always stored inside and would be a terrific car for any enthusiast.
