The same year the United States put a man on the moon, Chevrolet engineers were reaching for the stars as well, making their own performance cars; some of the quickest, fastest, most capable cars here on Earth. The Olympic Gold Z/28 rolled out of Norwood, Ohio assembly plant as X77 (base Camaro with Z/28 Package) with the D80 (Air Spoiler Equipment) option. This car has a HAGERTY valuation of over $69,700 and a clear MS title!
Under the hood is a numbers-matching DZ-suffix 302/290HP V8 engine with 4-speed manual transmission linked to a 3.73:1 positraction rear-end. Complete with double-hump heads, aluminum intake manifold, finned valve covers, chambered exhaust and a 4-barell carburetor, the smog pump is still intact. The bottom of the engine and transmission are as dry as a powder room with no leaks or seepage.
Inside, the black interior features bucket seats with headrests, a Hurst Shifter, a center console, tinted glass, a fold-down rear seat, tilt steering wheel and full console and dashboard instrumentation including a tachometer. Power brakes and front discs enhance the already fantastic driving prowess of the Camaro.
While the Olympic Gold color is a little subdued for a Z/28, it lends the car a nod to the mature-audience-only crowd, which can be a refreshing change in the world of muscle cars. Besides, the black racing stripes, air spoilers, specially ducted Z/28 hood and rally wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A gold-letter P215/70R15 97S M+S tires, set it off as more formidable than the rare color might initially put forth. To boot, the car has chrome side mirrors and has only had one repaint over its original sheet metal. Some “crow footing” is noted in the paint and can be noted in the photographs. There are notable blemishes on the front point of the hood, on the rear spoiler, in both troughs on the C-post on each side, and a very light “sag” in the clear coat on the driver’s side roof. No pitting is noted on any chrome and a window seals and joints are in incredible condition. Rockers, pans and tubs are completely rust-free and in wonder condition.
Sold new from Roger Dean Chevrolet in West Virginia, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a rare Z/28 in exceptionally clean condition. Sale comes with original Factory Assembly Instruction Manual, new-old stock original oil filter, battery tender, original steering wheel, optional Hurst shifter kit, and original Chevrolet literature and warning labels. Built for cranking out high revs and handling tight corners in Trans Am-series racing, cruising this machine will put you over the moon. **MANY MORE PHOTOS AVAILABLE ON REQUEST**
