I bought this Classic ’57 Chevy 20years ago and it has been garaged or under cover for all of that time. The gentleman I purchased the car from had painted it and recently had theheadliner replaced. My intention was to restore the Chevy completely, butas is sometimes the case, life gets busy.
That said, I have done some work onthe vehicle over the past years. The gas tank was replaced about 15 yearsago. The clutch and the brakes were replaced 10 years ago, and threeyears ago the oil pump was replaced.
A mechanic did an incomplete job of replacingthe furring on the door windows by not taking the furring strips all the wayinto the door panels. I believe thecorrect way to re-fur the windows is to take the furring strips all the wayinto the base of the channel inside the doors. My son and I have correctly replaced the glass and the furring in thepassenger side window and vent, but that is the only window in which thefurring has now been correctly replaced. The remaining three door windows require a proper installation of the furringstrips. (let me know if you needa better explanation of that!)
The body is straight, and the glassis all good except for the driver side window which is cracked. Thedoors all shut solid. And, as far as we know, the car is all original.
Thespeedometer, fuel gauge and the vacuum windshield wipers are not working. The odometer reads 73,000 but it no longerturns so we are not sure on the exact mileage.
In addition to the cracked driver’sside window there are numerous, nicks, dings, scratches and small spots of rust— All normal wear for a car this age.(see photos) The undercarriage andframe have very minimal rust. Thedriver’s side floor pan did have a rusted-out hole, but it has been replacedwith fiberglass. The motor has been tuned and runs well, and a newbattery was recently installed.
The car is quite drive-able, has beeninspected, and has a 2019 Texas windshield sticker.
I drive it locally, but I would notventure too far without a new set of tires. Bottom line,It startsand runs, but it is an old car looking for someone to treasure it with time.
Car is SOLD AS IS. FULL PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN 3 DAYS OF AUCTIONEND. PAYMENT CAN BE MADE BY PAYPAL ONLY. The Chevy should be picked up within ten days of payment.
