1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Additional Info:
This 1984 Camaro Z28 was built at the Van Nuys, California plant and delivered to Straman Auto Restoration in Costa Mesa, California for conversion to a convertible, prior to being shipped to the original selling dealer, The Lang Chevrolet Company in Xenia, Ohio, and subsequently sold August 1, 1984 to its first owner, Ms. Pamela Steele, of Hamilton, Indiana.
Straman was well known for converting high end cars such as Ferrari, Rolls-Royce and Mercedes into convertibles. During a period of time in the 1980's when most automobile manufacturers had stopped producing convertibles, Straman expanded their expertise to meet the demand for more mainstream convertibles such as Camaro, Firebird, Nissan 300ZX, Dodge Stealth, Honda CRX, to name a few. The cost of a Straman conversion on a Camaro or Firebird of this era was generally said to be about $5,500 (in addition to the price of the car). According to period promotional materials, R Straman converted 608 Camaros and Firebirds from 1983 to 1988, although the actual number of cars completed is said to be significantly less than that.....and even fewer remain today.
This example started out with nearly every option available from GM at the time, including the optional High Output engine, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power seat, cruise control, tilt wheel, custom cloth interior, etc. Total sticker price, including the Straman conversion, was $24,447.59.
Today, this very well preserved original has 62k miles, and drives as great as it looks. The 5.0 liter High Output V8 fires right up and moves the car down the road with authority (and a satisfying rumble from its dual exhaust). The manual convertible top is very well engineered and easily goes up and down....faster than a power top and without the complexity of electric motors and/or hydraulics. The body is in excellent condition, the original paint still shines brightly, the interior is pristine, and the dash has no cracks.....this has clearly been a garage kept car. Take a step back into the 80's at an affordable price..... With a brand new set of Goodyear tires and a fresh oil change, this Z28 is ready to go!
Included with this car are 2 sets of keys, original owners manual, build sheet, promotional brochure, copy of original window sticker.
