1930 Chevrolet 3 Window Coupe AD Universal
The Series AD was launched as replacement for the 1929 Series AC models. Sales dropped by over 200,000 to 640,980 vehicles for the year. The AD retained the new "stovebolt" 194ci six-cylinder engine from the Series AC, but with bigger intake valves and smaller exhaust valves, along with a new manifold, and that raised power from 46hp to 50hp The suspension now included hydraulic shock absorbers and the fuel gauge was moved from the tank to the dash panel.
For consignment a barn find that runs, but needs some TLC overall. This car will arrive with new roof materials including the wood to complete that task.
Exterior
Exterior panels are all steel, fairly straight, but have plenty of paint peeling, and some surface rust. Areas of particular concern are on the passenger front fender where it meets the body, lower door panels, driver's door, and drivers' side where body meets rocker and rear fender. These areas show invasive rust. Original wheels headlights, grille, spare tire and holder, bumpers and hood, show wear and will need to be restored.
Interior
The mohair tufted and buttoned bench has suffered from water damage and will need a total redux. The dash is in fair condition, steering wheel may have been replaced, and floors will need recovered. Door panels have water damage with also some dry rot. As mentioned, the consigner has the fixings for the roof.
Drivetrain
A 194ci 4-cylinder engine is within the confines of the cowled hood engine bay, which is all unrestored. A 1-barrel carb sits on top. The 3-speed manual transmission is attached to the rear of this car.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust, in particular on the sides where the running boards are. The frame looks like it has been recently painted with a rattle can, but no real invasive rust areas can be noted on the frame.
Drive-Ability
The consigner states the car runs great and has a new battery in it. The car started with some effort but runs and drives as expected. Naturally, one should go over the suspension and brakes before making a long trek.
As described by the consigner, a car that runs well, but will need some overall TLC. A survivor within the confines of a friendly barn, and it can be had for a very reasonable price.
