1987 Chevrolet Suburban Custom Classic Additional Info:
Here it is folks. This thing is one of a kind. 3/4 ton J VIN code 6.2 Diesel Suburban Classic with custom work inside and out. I was told 26,000 original miles when I bought it. No way to tell for sure, but you be the judge. Spent most of its life hauling the original owner's boat back and forth from Forest City, Iowa area to Lake Okaboji and Clear Lake a few times a year. Second owner bought it at auction and sat in his shed undriven for 4 years until he sold it to me in 2011. It has been my summer canoe trailer hauler, sailboat hauler, camper, and weekend cruiser. I have put 14,000 miles on it in 8 years. Hate to see her go but I need to sell some of my toys. Local pickup only. Ready to drive away. Contact me for more pictures. THE GOOD: Initially I had Dave Seydel in Iowa City overhaul the brakes, repack wheel bearings, new batteries, new belts, grease and lube in 2011. I have maintained the engine meticulously since then. No leaks whatsoever (except tiny drip around oil pan plug because I forgot to replace the gasket last time!). Batteries trickle charged in winter. Vacuum hoses replaced this summer. New radiator 2017. Added manual auxiliary glow plug switch in case it needs a little extra on a chilly morning. Upgraded starter from Auto Electric Specialty in Cedar Rapids. Replaced brake system hydroboost in 2016. All power windows and door locks work (including most importantly the rear window). Replaced the fuel injection pump around 2013 before hauling a sailboat down to Florida. LED party lights inside and custom interior with 4 bucket seats. Rear bench seat included. Air Conditioner has been converted to R34 and is ice cold but has slow leak and requires recharge every couple years. It has trailer brakes but never used them. Original cassette player. Receipts and records included. Never driven during Iowa winter. THE BAD: There are a couple rust issues around the wheel wells and base of the quarter panel that are typical with this vintage. Some of the aftermarket door ding strip has come off leaving adhesive residue. I had planned to replace it but decided to leave that up to you. A few small scratches and dings here and there but nothing too major. Some rust under body but not too bad. Exhaust could use some work. Steering wheel is a little loose which is a common problem for this vintage and fairly easy fix but never bothered me. Starter solenoid has started to be flaky every once in a while and needs a couple turns of the ignition before it engages. Glow plugs work fine in summer but might need replaced if you plan on driving in the winter.
