1972 Chevrolet Blazer Additional Info:

We bought this 1972 Blazer in April of 1985 to use as a snow plow for a small business. We closed the business 7 years ago but kept the blazer for cleaning the parking lot. We have owned this Blazer for 34 years. It had a Northman snowplow already installed on this when we bought it in April of 1985.This Blazer pushed snow real easy and never got stuck! I removed the snowplow just recently to make it easier for transporting. PLEASE SEE CONDITION
CONDITION: This had a real heavy snow plow on the front which took its toll on the frame about 10 years ago. The frame started to buckle at the top of the front wheel wells. I put a couple of pieces of angle iron on the drivers side of the frame and a small piece of metal under the frame on the passenger side. The passenger side of the frame is starting to crack where I put the small thick piece of metal under the frame. The frame is holding as long as a heavy snow plow is no longer mounted. However the frame is rusty from front to back and I think eventually the frame is going to break at the back of the front leaf springs where they mount to the frame. Replaced fuel pump on engine and installed new plastic gas tank this spring. This blazer is pretty original except for the body. I believe the engine is original but the trans was replaced about 20 years ago. It was the same style of trans (can't remember if it is a Turbo 350 or 400) but trans is newer than 1972. I know it has a 4 bolt main engine, as the engine oil pan rusted out and was replaced. Because the electric pump on the snowplow drew so much electric we put a newer internal regulated alternator on it many years ago. We also installed a second battery. We replaced the point distributor with a HEI distributor many years ago. The wiring is mostly original but has several splices from the plow lights, the alternator, and HEI distributor. I replaced the brake lines, trans lines and fuel lines with stainless steel. The new stainless steeI lines do not fit as well as the original lines did. The brake proportioning valve is missing. I removed the front stabilizer (sideways shock) as it was not needed with the weight of the snow plow. Still have the original stabilizer shock, and brackets for mounting. The body was showing rust about 20 years ago so we had new rocker panels and rear quarter panels installed. The top was removed for installing the replacement quarter panels. Probably the only time the top was removed. You can see the seam where the replacement panels come together at the top center of the rear wheel wells. The very rear body mounts by the tailgate were replaced with a newer piece of metal and different than original body mounts also 20 years ago. The other body mounts are very rusty but most appear to still be holding. The drivers door still shuts easily but you can see that it does not fit the body well. The front window has 3 noticeable rock chips in it. The window vent on the passenger front door has had some welding done on it where it meets the door.I believe this is in good mechanical shape except for the following items. The radiator has 90% of its cooling fins missing. The water pump is making a bearing noise and there is play in the fan when you wiggle it. Water pump and radiator are not leaking but will not last very much longer. If it sits for more than a week not being ran the trans will drip trans fluid. The two 12 volt batteries are both at least 7 years old and don't hold a charge real well. The brakes feel good and the lights all work. I believe the interior is all original except we added the center console for storing stuff but is the original style. The drivers seat has wear from getting in and out. The rear seat has a stain that goes across most of the bottom of the rear seat. The rubber mat on the floor is old and brittle. The tires have good tread but were the tires that were on the Blazer when we bought it 34 years ago! The spare has never been used and is probably the original spare tire. The rear window on the topper above the tailgate has a crack to the right of the handle and a piece of metal on the inside. I have the original trim pieces (missing 2 for the rear tailgate) but most of the trim has holes in it from when they were mounted improperly. Trim is shown on grass with extra hubcaps. Small black fishing box has some of the trim anchor pieces. Has the manual lock outs on the front axle for locking the front differential. Sometimes when we used to plow with this we had to put it in reverse and drive it backwards, hit the brakes, then shift into neutral to get it out of 4x4 low or high. Since we have owned this for 34 years we do not have the heart to tear it apart and sell it piece by piece.
