1970 Chevrolet Corvette Base Additional Info:
You're viewing my 1970 Corvette 4 speed Coupe. This car is a true time capsule from the '70's! It was found I believe in Tennessee or Mississippi about 3 years ago, then brought to Florida where I purchased it. Apparently it was put away since the 80's and untouched all these years! The fuel system has been gone thru with new lines, new gas tank, brakes gone thru, and the 350ci motor tuned up. The car runs, drives, and stops fine. If I were to keep it, I think I would leave the crazy retro paint (two tone green and gold complete with a naked woman riding an angry brown bear airbrushed on the L88 hood), and just finish off the interior. Either leave the paint alone, or shoot some clear to preserve it? I mean, you see a million restored Corvettes but when's the last time you saw one like this??!! This is a heck of a conversation starter! The paint is checking in areas, faded in some, and a small area removed off rear deck to inspect condition of the fiberglass. The car was originally Donnybrook Green (rare and desirable!) with green interior.
The body was flared like many were back in the day, and it was done very well. All of the joining seams are excellent. The overall condition of the fiberglass body is very good. The frame is solid with just minor scaling from being put away for decades. The interior did have 1970's green shag carpet (of course!) and gold velour seats and door panels (passenger door panel still there) but the guy I bought it from pulled out the old carpet and had the seats professionally recovered in black. The car comes with a new black carpet kit, new black door panels, new black center e-brake console, new door sill plates, and all new Stingray emblems, flag emblems and individual lettering for the rear. The chrome bumpers for the front and rear are now off the car but included and in good condition. Side vents and marker lights are boxed up with other new parts. The car was in the process of starting a restoration, hence the trim and lights being removed. The car is complete. Everything is boxed up and will be included. Hood is just set in place and will be strapped securely for shipping. The Firestone tires shown in the first 2 pics have been replaced with brand new Hankook tires.
I have driven the car around my neighborhood a few times, but not on any main city roads at speed. It runs good, shifts fine, and stops good. May need an alignment or bushings as they're most likely original. The side pipes sound awesome by the way! Just watch your ankles getting out! The car used to have home made acrylic t-tops but they were broken during the previous owner's caretaking. It now comes with a set of blue factory t-tops. This year also has the removeable rear window, which is a pretty cool feature and only offered a few years. 1970 was a low production year for Corvettes due to the labor dispute, which may add to its collectibility.
Overall, this would be a very cool retro "driver" or a wicked cool restoration/resto-mod project with its low stance and wide body!
The reason I am selling and not keeping it is I JUST purchased a 1970 454 big block 4 speed Roadster (see last pic) that has won my heart over. Wife said I can't keep both! This Coupe will make a very cool ride for somebody! Think of the interesting conversations and special class trophies you'll win at the car shows with this one!!
