1985 Chevrolet Blazer Silverado Additional Info:
1985 K5 Blazer with Silverado package this is a virtually rust free low mileage truck. You can find nicer restored ones and they will be more expensive you will be very hard pressed to find a nicer unrestored K5 than this one. An original Alaska vehicle this K5 was undercoated when new and has been parked in a heated garage (very rarely driven) since 1992, this is the reason for so little rust. The original (wimpy) 305 has been replaced with a strong 350 and the 700-R4 has been replaced with a 1991 model year unit, if you know anything about GM's overdrive transmissions you know the 87-91 are the good ones. The K-5 has NEW 35" BF Goodrich All Terrain tires mounted on the now vintage Western Wheel Bullets wheels (the wheels could use reconditioning something that I can have done) The 4" lift is by Rancho but has just been updated/upgraded to an ORD shackle flip kit in the rear with the greaseablebushings and the lift blocks removed. The original NP208 transfer casehas just been replaced with an NP241 which make a slip yoke eliminator an option for the future, it also has an ORD t-case re clockingring which has helped with additional ground clearance. The rear brakes are new and the backing plates having been removed blasted and painted, wheel cylinders replaced after that many years dormant. The rear axle has been upgraded with a 1974 model year 12 bolt, new bearings new posi and new 4:56.1 gears where added. 4:56's up front as well in the original corporateaxle. Shocks are new Bilstien on all four corners. The front bumper is a vintage (if you will) WARN unit that houses a 10,000lbs WARN winch, I bought a new controller the winch however is NOT working (relays click but no action I was quoted $200 for a new motor). The rear drive shaft is also a new piece.
Most of the interior was just redone new carpet on the floors front (blue) rear (black) the seats front and rear were upgraded to 1989 model year and professionallyrecovered. The dash is beautiful and as nice as you will ever see NO cracks. The 89' seats recline and slide unlike the fixed 85' seats. Although there are 4 vintage ADS audio speakers there is NO stereo the tape deck was stolen and never replaced so stereo is up to the new owner. Original Alaska truck was never equippedwith A/C however a Vintage Air system can easily be installed.
The front sway bar had new poly bushings installed and ORD quick disconnect links added. Mile Marker hubs reside in place of the factory auto locking units. Tie rod ends, center link and drag link are all new MOOG parts. The original Q-jet carb sits on the 350 although the original HEI has been replaced with a new vacuum unit and the ESC disconnected. This truck still has the original exhaust on it which I am not boasting but it is a great example of being truley rust free it has to be if the muffler doesn't even have a hole in it.
The truck was painted back in 92' and although the paint nor the prep work are perfect this truck shows very very well. It does have some chips and scratches. The rear tailgate has a power window but only works from the dash switch and not the rear key switch, power windows and locks work as they should the tilt column is tight as well as the steering. The frame has the reinforcement kit around the steering gear.Truck drive straight and only 2 fingers are needed at 80mph.
These squarebody trucks with 35's are supposed to have a 4" suspensionand 1" body lift or just 6" of suspensionlift to prevent the front tires from hitting the fenders which IS the case with this truck. Both front fenders have been hit and damaged buy having the tires turned and hitting bumps back in the day with lame Rancho shocks. The Bilstiens pretty much eliminate the issue.
However that said my next move was to lightly trim the the fenders and spray color coordinatedbed liner on the bottom third of the truck something I would be willing to take care of if the BIN price is met as well as reconditioning the wheels with options for insert color.
Questions welcome I really don't believe you'll find a nicer package for less. 970-213-1961 ask for Leroy
With 4:56's and 4LO this thing will just about climb straight up.
