Rare opportunity to own a very highly optioned and very desirable first year Camaro that is remarkably original and comes with 50 years of documentation.
You are viewing a California built 1967 RS/SS 350 4spd with 81,000 original miles still bearing most of its original Marina Blue paint. The car comes with a ton of original documentation preserving its historical significance right down to its original purchaser who even today is the only legal registered owner of the car evidenced by the original California “pink” slip title in the name matching the original dealer purchase documents.
On 12/8/1966 Dailey Chevrolet in San Leandro, CA 94577 ordered this “loaded” blue on blue 1967 display Camaro for their showroom floor to show off many of the available options that could be ordered for the first ever “new” Camaro.
The options included as evidenced by the original protecto plate:
Rally Sport
Super Sport “SS 350”
Muncie 4 Speed transmission
12 bolt rear end with 355 gears
4 piston front disc brakes
FF Marina Blue paint with white bumble bee stripe
Deluxe interior with bright blue custom bucket seats with the ultra rare headrest option
Fold down rear back seat
Tilt steering column
Tachometer in the dash
Center console with gauge pod
Deluxe Custom seatbelts with shoulder belts
All tinted windows
AM/FM radio with rear speaker
In late 1966 when the Van Nuys, Los Angeles assembly plant completed and shipped the car to Dailey Chevrolet, the original owner who, while driving past the dealership twice a day commuting to work in his red 1959 convertible impala saw this beautiful brand new car and had to have it! He traded the impala in for the Camaro and drove it as a daily driver until 1981when he decided to park it in front of his house on his San Leandro street and drive something newer (I didn’t ask what kind of car that was…..). He continued to register the car until 1985 when he moved the car from the street to his driveway and ultimately into the garage where it sat for decades. The car has not been titled since.
I have owned and been the care taker of the car for several years now but when I bought the car it had not been run for years. With a new battery and a change of gas, she started right up. Over the years I have maintained the car and tried to preserve its originality while only putting about 30 miles on the car.
The entire drive train is original numbers matching to the car and the engine has never left the engine compartment. All the original CA emission equipment is still on the motor. The original exhaust is still present with the exception of replaced transverse muffler. All four “DG” 14” rally wheels are still on the car plus a DG rally spare in the trunk. The redline tires currently on the car are bias ply NOS tires that I put on several years ago that replaced a similar size that were aged, cracking and unsafe. All of the weather stripping is still original to the car as well as the deluxe door panels, rear seat panels. I had the worn seats recovered last year along with the carpet as the original interior was just worn out. ( I have photos of the original )
The car runs and drives well for its age and original condition. I have enjoyed my time with it and now it’s time for someone like me who appreciates what it is to have a turn. I have considered a full restoration many times but each time opted to keep the vintage look, feel and nostalgia of the car. It could be enjoyed as is or made to be a museum piece. You decide.
The car runs and drives well but has not been registered on the street since 1985 and really not driven regularly for over 35 years. I had the original carburetor rebuilt several years ago along with the 4 piston front calipers so she’s a runner but will need continued TLC if your plans are to drive her more regularly. The front hideaways are original and untouched and do not work but I do have two GM NOS RS motors that will go with the car.
The mild California climate of the San Jose Bay Area (now called Silicon Valley) has been very good to the body of this car over the years and it is 99% rust free but it does have a couple of small spots as shown in the photos below. Now in San Diego since I purchased her, the car comes with the following original dealer documentation (also show in the photos)
Both CA black license plates issued by the DMV in 1967
Original owners manual in the original GM plastic pouch
Protecto plate with warranty card both in the dealer provided paper sleeve
Original 1967 dealer custom options accessories pamphlet
Original CA emissions pamphlet
Original AM-FM GM radio pamphlet
Original temporary first registration
Most of the CA DMV issued registrations from 1967 through the early 1980’s
Original and only CA pink slip (title)
