I am pleased to present one of the most extraordinary Corvette offerings you will see. With just 311 actual miles, this never-titled 1972 ZR1 represents an unmatched combination of rarity and originality. There just aren’t many automotive finds like this one. To begin, this is a very rare C3 ZR1. First introduced in 1970, the ZR1 “Special Purpose Engine Package” was essentially a factory race car and successor to the L88. The ZR1 was equipped with the high revving LT1... engine and M22 rock crusher 4-speed transmission. Brakes were upgraded to the J56 heavy duty platform, while the suspension was elevated to the F41 setup. You also got a special Harrison aluminum radiator (the same 3007436 part as the L88) with an expansion tank. You could NOT get power windows, power steering, a/c, or even a radio (note the absence of ignition shielding). The 1972 model even omitted a fan shroud as the ZR1 was really not meant for the street. These unique cars represent the rarest small block Corvettes in history. Only 20 such models were built in 1972 which was the final year for the C3 ZR1. Rarity indeed. Then there is this car’s stunning originality. Aside from fluids, this car is essentially as it left the factory. As you might expect from a car with 311 miles, it has all of its factory paint, a completely original interior, a numbers-matching drivetrain, and all the other original items so desirable on classic Corvettes. But this ZR1 takes it a step further. The original assembly line markings are present. The part number decals are still legible on the tailpipes. All five tires are original, date coded the 7th week of 1972. It has its original air filter. Further, this car was never dealer prepped; it still has the factory plastic plug in the clutch bellcrank. It is truly mind boggling. There is plenty of documentation to go along with this incredible ZR1. There is the original window sticker and warranty book with Protect-O-Plate. The original purchase agreement, dealer order form, and dealer invoice. All manuals and keys. There is even the original Drive A Way tag from Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet. It’s everything you’d want for a highly collectible Corvette. This car was also the subject of an article in the December 2009 edition of Corvette Enthusiast magazine highlighting its amazing story. In addition, this car has received some of the most prestigious Corvette accolades including the NCRS Duntov award (2010) and Bloomington Gold Benchmark certification (2012). There aren’t many Corvettes as rare as this one. And there aren’t many classic cars as original as this one. Put those two elements together and you’ve really got something special. Further, with only 311 miles this is the lowest mileage C3 ZR1 in existence, still on its factory MSO after almost 50 years. There is simply nothing else like it.
