1968 Chevrolet Corvette Additional Info:
For sale is an outstanding survivor 1968 all numbers matching 427/390hp Corvette Sport Coupe, this car has everything including its original spare and spare tire, recently completed a minor restoration, the rare stereo radio was repaired and is in perfect working order. Had all the bushings replaced as they were the original factory bushings and disintegrated when removed, the car was re-aligned and my mechanic was surprised to find that the car had never been aligned before, the factory shims were still in place. The car was aligned and the factory shims were saved. A number of rubber weatherstripping around the t-tops were replaced. Clock and all gauges work perfectly, alternator is correct date code The gas tank was dropped and the there was enough of the tank sticker remaining to confirm the 390 hp Turbo-jet engine, the M-21 close ratio transmission, positraction rear end, leather interior, and British Green paint The original tank was removed, the sticker sealed, and a brand new tank was installed The car also has a fuel return line, no radiator overflow tank, and 5600 redline tach, confirming the 390hp engine option.
The 18th picture is of the matching numbers transmission case Paint is in good condition, there are two small cracks by the front passenger hood mount, but all in all good driver quality paint This car is well optioned and as you see below, has two rare options, the rear window defrost and the factory car alarm, all the parts for the car alarm are there, the plungers in each door, the horns in the rear wheel wells, and the key in the rear valance, I did not have it hooked up as it has been known to drain the battery. Interestingly the car has exhaust cutouts from a 70, it looks like they were added at some point or as a replacement but I could not find any evidence of damage.
Car was delivered new to Hamilton Chevrolet in Warren Michigan. This car starts right up and runs like a champ, runs cool around 180 and handles very well. 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Sport Coupe L-36 427 Cubic Inches, 390 Horsepower V-8 - Matching numbers engine, transmission, rear end VIN: 194378S411993 Built 21 February 1968 Engine ID date code: T = Tonawanda, NY big block assembly plant/02 = February 1968/13 = 13th day of the month/IL = 427 ci, 390 hp manual transmission Engine serial number: divisional code (1 = Chevrolet)/vehicle model year [8)/ vehicle assembly plant (S = St. Louis)/vehicle serial number = 18S411993 Numbers matching Muncie M-21 close ratio 4-speed: Built 25 January 1968 Rear End: 1FA = 3.70:1 427 Heavy Duty Positraction built 14 Jan 1968 by Warren Motive Body Number Trim & Point Plate Body build date code G22 = 22 February 1968 TRIM 402 = Black Leather interior PAINT 983 = British Green Metallic 11993 of 28,566 Corvettes built in 1968 9,936 Coupes built in 1968 Regular Production Order (RPO) Codes and Options 19437 Base Corvette Sport Coupe $4,663.00 898 Genuine Leather Seats $79.00 A01 Soft Ray Tinted Glass, All Windows $15.80 1 of only 693 C50 Rear Window Defroster $31.60 G81 Positraction Rear Axle, all ratios $46.35 J50 Power Brakes $42.15 L36 427 Cubic Inches, 390 Horsepower Engine $200.15 M21 4-Speed Manual Transmission, close ratio $184.35 N36 Telescopic Steering Column $42.15 N40 Power Steering $94.80 PT6 Red Stripe Tires, F70x15, nylon $31.30 U79 AM-FM Radio, stereo $278.10 K66 Transistor Ignition System $73.75 1 of only 388 UA6 Alarm System $26.35
