Sporting a sleek, aggressive exterior color that gives it the visual impact of a panther on wheels, this 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 is a proud specimen of the second generation of this Chevy model that would go on to become one of the most coveted of all American muscle cars. This car is no mere rebadging of a lesser version of its nameplate - it's a genuine Super Sport and even packs era-correct big block power under its hood. Chevy took its already popular Chevelle through a fairly substantial restyling the year this '68 came out, equipping it with a noticeably more refined look that included tapered front fenders and a rounded beltline - styling cues that would go on to become defining features for the model for some time. The graceful form looks very sharp clad in black paint that offers a nice shine and steers clear of any glaring blemishes to detract from its curb appeal. The assembly of chrome exterior fittings - including the bumpers both fore and aft, body trim and badging - is looking solid and securely in place. With a sea of black serving as their backdrop, they really pop out at you. The sharp SS badge that ornaments the front end while attesting to this Chevy's authentic top-tier status really looks great on the front grille as it sits between two clean looking headlight casings. The black vinyl interior presents well and offers a very appealing vintage driving environment. It features bench seats in both front and back that don't show any glaring effects of wear and still have plenty of life left in them as they sit over the fresh black carpeting lining the floor. Take a look above you and you'll see that the black headliner is also in good condition, showing no stains or sagging. Beyond the stock Chevrolet steering wheel, the original gauges in the cluster are still easily readable and are joined by a pair of Equus aftermarket counterparts to keep a close read on vital motoring functions. The dash area has the sharp alignment you'd want in a finished classic and the pad sitting over the top is level and crack free. You'll notice that there's no stereo to be found in the center of the dash at present, but this gives you the opportunity to fill that waiting void with a sound system totally of your choosing. Raise the hood and you'll find a period correct 396 cubic inch V8 waiting underneath, delivering on the promise of this classic's genuine big block Super Sport designation. It cuts quite an appearance with its chrome Moroso valve covers and a matching Moroso air cleaner that sits over the top of an Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carb. The big block is running strong and sounds just like you'd want it to - it's equipped with long tube headers that culminate in a 2.5" dual exhaust, so this Chevelle vocalizes a nice, deep roar. The engine teams with a 3-speed automatic transmission that's shifting very solidly, as well as a 3.73 rear end that offers strong off the line acceleration without sending RPMs into the stratosphere at highway speeds. Power steering makes for easy navigation, while power brakes that include discs up front bring the set of 15" black painted retro rims wrapped with Hercules H/P 4000 tires to prompt stops as needed. With its aggressive look and big block power, this 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 has plenty to offer. Call today!
